I am a fictional character who will be live tweeting about the Anglo-Irish Treaty negotiations between November 22 and December 3 to mark the centenary of the event #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@AngelVa69775426 This is exactly my fear. For too long we have lived in a state of chaos and death. The most Irish thing we could do is to end all fighting and start a new society free from the hardships caused by the British! Peace above all!
#nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@JoeOCon79938394 While violence was seemingly needed at different times in our history, I urge you to remain peaceful and calm now in your action to support independence. We can show that we are in the right for our desire for freedom if we do it peacefully. #nsuirishhistory#angloirishhistory
@QuincyDean9 @IrishNsu Do you realize that you are saying oppression is fine so long as it does not affect you? How can you not understand that the only reason you get benefits from the British Crown is because you joined THEIR religion and follow THEM blindly. #nsuirishhistory#angloirishhistory
I've been speaking to my father in Dublin. He has had a field day with this treaty news. He has been writing inflammatory things in his paper. This used to upset me deeply, but after everything that has happened, I can only laugh. #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@AngelVa69775426 It may have to be this way! If we can end the fighting, isn't that enough? Take a moment to consider the consequences of continued fighting: death. Let us move on. I want Ireland to be free as well, but I will take what I can. #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@QuincyDean9 @IrishNsu Pacifism has gone nowhere because it was never widely practiced. If WE act peacefully, others will see us as the victims of oppression that WE ARE. The pen is mightier than the sword! I have been teaching my students this to fight their fear. #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
@NedBoylan I urge you to use your words and not your weapons. Act as the bigger man. The British resort to violence when they cannot get their way. They have done it in India, and they have always done it here. Words have the power. Use them! #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
We have heard very little here on the west coast, but that always happens. We have always suffered most. The famine hit us the hardest, and now we are excluded from knowing what is happening in London. If you hear anything let us know! #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
@AngelVa69775426 I have not heard this from my sources fighting for independence in Mayo. I fear a partition may cause more conflict. Those who believe in total independence will continue to fight, and those opposing it will retaliate. I am praying for peace. #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
@QuincyDean9 Why are British Unionists so concerned with staying in Ireland? This is NOT Britain. End the violence, stop the bloodshed, and move to Britain. I believe this would be most helpful to everyone involved. A peaceful end is needed! #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
The violence erupting across island, but especially the north, is concerning. I wish both sides would cease further conflict until we hear what has been decided in London. If Ireland is not granted freedom, then we should reevaluate. #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
@JoeMcAndrew9 @IrishNsu It is not our empire if we can't make decisions for our home. You have been misguided into thinking the British care about Ireland for anything more than financial gain. They want to suppress us. They will continue to do so. Realize that. #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
@JoeMcAndrew9 @IrishNsu I hope that your passion for Imperialism can be redirected to ending violence. I do not like to engage in conflict like this, but WE cannot continue to suffer and die. Who will be left to enjoy your beloved Empire if everyone is killed? #nsuirishhistory#Angloirishtreaty
News of the negotiations have prevented students from being able to focus. They're concerned the British are going to keep attacking them. They should only be focussing on their education, but their lives have been filled with only violence. #nsuirishhistory#AngloIrishTreaty
@AnnieMcD28 I totally agree. Peace at home is what we NEED. If we have peace, we have safety. Our children will no longer starve, and we can achieve that through a treaty. Hopefully it gives us freedom and unity. #angloitishtreaty#nsuirishhistory
It’s terrible to see such an overstep from the English. However, we are so close to peace. We mustn’t give them reason to back out of the peaceful path and resort to violence. #angloitishtreaty#nsuirishhistory
@SheilaK3240@AngelVa69775426 @Michael39215951 I agree that we need independence, but if we aren't able to achieve total control of the island, but CAN have peace and end violence, then that is a victory! We must not have any more death in our cities, villages, and homes. Peace above all #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@SheilaK3240 @Michael39215951 Above all, I hope peace is achieved. We have suffered, and continue to do so. This island has been hurt and ravaged by violence for centuries. If independence is achieved, then I hope our existence and future is one of harmony and Irish unity #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
@Michael39215951 I have seen destitution as a result of the British occupation. Children in my school come hungry, shoeless, and oppressed. Their lives are torn apart by war and violence caused by the Black and Tans. This needs to end. Peace needs to come.

News is reaching our small corner of County Mayo saying that a treaty is being negotiated in London. I hope that an end will come to the fighting, and that all Irishmen will enjoy safe and happy lives free from war, hunger, and future conflict. #nsuirishhistory#angloirishtreaty
