Destruction of a precious ancient bluebell woodland in the Kent countryside under a deluge of illegal landfill waste shows the utter failure of environmental law, complete inaction by the authorities & increasing lawlessness in the UK. Let me tell you the story of Hoads Wood 🧵
❗️The shocking truth behind a draconian & barbaric industry❗️Whilst working in #Yorkshire recently, I counted no less than 384 LIVING Pheasants during a 30 minute car journey. That’s 10x more than any other native birds seen. On the way back, I found 9x DEAD birds, SHOT & left to die at the side of the road, all within 100m.
Every year, 60 million NON-NATIVE birds are released in the UK, for the sole purpose - to be shot in the name of “sport.” Most aren’t eaten & many thousands are simply burned or buried. So why is it that @DefraGovUK can permit the release of so many non-native species into our landscape without batting an eyelid? These birds, although it’s not their fault, will eat almost everything - Grass Snakes, Slow Worms, Newts, Frogs and a whole host of insects that will not only cause further food shortages for our native birds, but Hedgehogs and other animals too. We NEED to stop this draconian bloodsport to help our native wildlife.

I've just signed this petition. Recycling centres are so important to local communities. Will you add your name and share too?

Did you know the Keswick Codlin was found growing as a seedling tree... and not originally from Keswick 👀
There's plenty more tasty apple facts up for grabs right now. Never has a @RHSLibraries display smelt so good 🍎
Ta to @RHSHarlowCarr kitchen garden team for the apples!
This talk by Robin Wall Kimmerer, "Mishkos Kenomagwen: The Teachings of Grass" is one of the most important and valuable, soul changing 21 minutes you will ever spend. It kills me it has so few views. Do yourself a favour: watch & share it.

What has happened to the Wye and its tributaries is an environmental disaster. The solution lies not just in the manner of production but also our craving for cheap chicken.

Why are we still building thousands of homes with no solar, no heat pumps, basic insulation, no water capture, no grey water recycling? Answer: maximizing profits of developers at expense of our environment & climate.
@clothofnature@RHSHarlowCarr@RHSLibraries Oops Jane… looked more closely at the article and it’s the embroidering butterflies book I’m reading… but the new one looks delightful too!
