Today is a big final day. Teshia Zuniga with @RuchiMathurMD and @GabrielaGSLeite show that rheumatoid arthritis is associated with #sibo. Is there a link to autoimmune diseases or does SIBO fuel the fire? More work is needed. @MASTprogram#microbiome
This one is for the skeptical academics. We measured breath hydrogen sulfide and methane then immediately scope the patient and measured the same in duodenum and symptoms and microbiome. Guess what...breath correlates with duodenum and symptoms so gases are from small bowel!
🔬 Day 2 at DDW — complete!
Another impactful day for the MAST Program at Digestive Disease Week 2026. Today brought a new set of presentations and fresh perspectives.
It’s been great to see our work spark conversations while also learning from the wide range of innovative studies being shared across the conference.
Energized by the progress and connections so far. On to Day 3!

🔥 DDW is in full swing — Day 2!
The MAST Program is back with another exciting round of research presentations as Digestive Disease Week 2026 continues.
Today, we’re building on yesterday’s momentum with new data, deeper insights, and ongoing conversations around the gut microbiome and GI health.
If you’re here, come find us at our sessions. We’d love to connect!
Can’t make it? Video summaries of our oral presentations and posters #1282, #1757, #1292, and #1294 are on MAST's YouTube channel.
More to come as the week continues!

Also, Nathaniel Liu and Jonathan Busam are presenting on the utility of Rome IV. Only a handful of criteria are even used in functional GI disorders. Su1757
Let's talk about QUASAR a presentation by Dr. Said Bogatyrev from @MASTprogram at 12:30 today. Want to assess absolute abundance with shotgun sequencing without spike in... he has a solution that may be better than spike in. Absolute abundance correlates better with symptoms.
@DDWMeeting lots of talk about obesity, MASLD, GLPs. Shall a displaced Endocrinologist state the obvious? Stairs: Cheap. Easy. Prevention. Just saying….we should consider practicing what we preach!
🚨 Day 1 at DDW is here!
The MAST Program is excited to kick off the first day of Digestive Disease Week 2026 with our initial round of research presentations.
If you’re attending, be sure to stop by our sessions and connect with our team. We’re looking forward to sharing our work and learning from the broader GI community.
Can’t make it? Video summaries of our oral presentation and poster #1133 are on MAST's YouTube channel.

Big highlights coming to #DDW2026! Cedars-Sinai experts are helping drive the next wave of GI research discoveries 🙌
This Cedars-Sinai article highlights MAST physician-scientists:
- Dr. Ruchi Mathur and Dr. Gabiela Leite will share research linking changes in the small bowel microbiome to Type 2 diabetes.
- Dr. Ali Rezaie will share that a palatable elemental diet improves abdominal pain and related IBS symptoms after two weeks of treatment.
- Dr. Mark Pimentel and Dr. Maria Jesus Villanueva-Millan will share their research showing that hydrogen sulfide breath levels match levels found in the small intestine and are associated with specific microbes and diarrhea severity.
We’re proud to contribute to research that continues to expand our understanding of digestive health and the gut microbiome.
