🗣️ Marc Cucurella: The World Cup final completely changed my opinion of Leo Messi.

From my perspective, he looked frustrated and desperate to win. After I simply asked him, as captain, to calm his teammates because I felt they were becoming too aggressive, I believe he portrayed our exchange to the referee as something it wasn’t. I never made any racist remark, and the whole incident left me deeply disappointed.

That moment made me question the fairness of what happened. To me, honesty and integrity matter just as much as winning. If I feel someone has misrepresented my words, it’s difficult for me to trust or respect them in the same way again.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been my idol since childhood, and my respect for him has never changed. I admire his dedication, discipline, and mentality. In my opinion, he has built his legacy through hard work, perseverance, and merit. That’s why he will always be my greatest football inspiration.

Mourners Chant "President! President!" as President Chamisa Arrives at Augustine "Ogga" Rashirai's Funeral in Masvingo West

President Nelson Chamisa attended and addressed mourners at the funeral of Augustine "Ogga" Rashirai in Ward 10, Masvingo West, on 17 July 2026. Ward 10 falls under Headman Rashirai and Chief Charumbira. Ogga, who was 30 years old, had been planning to marry before the end of the year.

President Chamisa won resoundingly in Masvingo West during the 2018 and 2023 harmonised elections against Zanu PF's Emmerson Mnangagwa. In contrast, Masvingo West's Zanu PF Member of Parliament, Ezra Chadzamira, narrowly defeated President Chamisa's then-candidate, Pedzisai Gasva Chifamba.

As President Chamisa arrived at the funeral, mourners broke into spirited chants of "President! President! President!" One mourner remarked, "Here in Chief Charumbira's area, and across Masvingo West generally, we voted for President Chamisa in both the 2018 and 2023 harmonised elections." There were scenes of wild celebration, with mourners ululating, singing, and dancing. A stampede nearly broke out as people jostled to catch a glimpse of the President.

Ogga died on 13 July 2026 after being struck by a vehicle driven by Mrs Francisca Phumuzile Ndlovu, aged 39. He lost his life while on duty near the Chicken Slice shop, where he worked as a Masvingo City Council employee responsible for car parking payments.

Speaking at the funeral, which was attended by approximately 3,500 people, President Chamisa described Ogga as a hero. "Ogga is our child. I am here because of this hero, Ogga. Ogga was ready for the 'Chapwati' that we are preparing. This 'Chapwati' will cause havoc in the political arena. It will bring political, economic, and social transformation..." said President Chamisa.

The President revealed that he had been scheduled to be in Zhombe, Midlands, on official business but cancelled the engagement to attend Ogga's funeral and burial.

President Chamisa extended his condolences to the father, mother, and relatives of the deceased. He noted that Ogga had passionately desired the total transformation of Zimbabwe for the benefit of all.

Ogga was a staunch supporter of President Nelson Chamisa. In 2022 and 2023, he campaigned vigorously for the President during the Masvingo council by-elections, which saw victories for Aleck Tabe (Ward 4), Richard Musekiwa (Ward 7), Rocky Kamuzondo (Ward 3), and Daniel Mberikunashe (Ward 5). In 2023, he also campaigned for President Chamisa and Councillor Bernard Muchokwa of Masvingo Urban Ward 9, where they secured a decisive victory over Zanu PF.

One mourner, Mrs Getrude Hungwe, expressed her gratitude: "I want to thank President Nelson Chamisa for attending the funeral of my brother, Augustine Ogga. I was not aware that President Chamisa loved Ogga so much. Indeed, President Chamisa is a loving leader and father."

The funeral and burial proceedings were led by Roman Catholic priests. After Ogga was laid to rest, President Chamisa, the priests, and other mourners departed from the homestead. The ceremony proceeded peacefully, with various speakers sharing fond memories of Ogga's life.

Among the notable attendees were Honourable Patrick Cheza (Chirumhanzi), Honourable Amos Chibaya (Gweru), Mr Farai Chinobva, Masvingo Mayor Alec Tabe, Deputy Mayor Daniel Mberikunashe, Councillors Esther Zishiri, Alaika Time, Sabina Chikwangwani, Bernard "Benic" Muchokwa, Zanu-PF councillor Benson Hwata, as well as Masvingo City employees and management.

Masvingo Urban member of parliament Honourable Martin Mureri visited Ogga's family today in Charumbira, 18th July 2026, to pay his condolences. Honourable Mureri was outside Masvingo city due to work commitments during burial of Ogga.
