When conditions are met, a solver steps in and settles the trade on THORChain. It’s async (later block), but still atomic (all-or-nothing).
Why it’s cool:

• Trustless, fail-safe execution
Think of it as a flexible train ticket:

1. “Off‑chain, how? Most of them put everything on chain.”
Here’s the nuance:
Quotes & planning may happen off-chain, drawing from CEX liquidity or RFQs.
Final execution always happens on-chain, atomically fulfilling the intent.
So you're right: the swap executes on-chain, but much of the orchestration is off-chain to avoid MEV leakage.
2. “If you get a quote, you get that amount—How can MEV happen?”
MEV (like front-running, sandwiching, or reorgs) happens when:
- Mechanics rely on mempool exposure—if your transaction is broadcast publicly, bots can peek in.
- Additionally, private or permissioned solvers can order or delay your trade to extract value.
Intents aim to reduce this by shifting the orchestration off-chain and submitting only the final execution on-chain - but centralization remains a concern if just a few solvers exist. Unless solver access is truly open, we’re just rebuilding TradFi middlemen.
3. “Also explain ‘centralized solvers?.”
Centralized solvers = systems run by a single entity, often permissioned and gate-kept.
Decentralized solvers = open competition, permissionless access (like CoW Swap or UniswapX).
Even open systems can skew centralization: Across might have 15 relayers, but one can dominate most volume—leading to a de-facto centralized flow.
