Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves, significantly more than the United States. Furthermore, Venezuela has exactly the type of oil ("heavy crude") that the United States lacks and needs.
Regarding Russia’s attacks against European countries: Russia is testing their ability to defend themselves and trying to influence societies so people begin to ask: “If we can’t protect ourselves, why should we keep supporting Ukraine?” This is intended to reduce assistance to Ukraine, especially ahead of winter.
92 drones were headed toward Poland. We intercepted them over Ukrainian territory, 19 reached their airspace. Still, we see the direction, so to speak the choreography of this flight. Italy may be next. You see Norway, Denmark. There are signals from Sweden. There are Romanians, Poles, the Baltic states. Putin is testing what the Europeans have.
Some countries may worry about transferring air-defense systems to Ukraine and decide to keep them at home. But it doesn’t work that way. You can’t use systems like Patriot to shoot down every drone – there simply aren’t that many interceptors in the world.
What’s needed instead is knowledge: the expertise of our mobile fire teams, our drone operators, the leadership of our air forces, and commanders of our air-defense units.
@shashj@nytimes Why doesn't Trump give security guarantees to Ukraine? Answer: He doesn't trust Putin at all, but Trump's strategy is to sacrifice Ukraine and save money in the short term.
@ramez Two psychopaths in the White House, one is senseless and one is intelligent. Trump is the senseless and erratic, Vance is the intelligent and dangerous.
No one asked him in 1942 @WhiteHouse to say thank you. No one told him that he had no cards. No one made fun of his outfit. Back then, everyone knew we were on the side of freedom and against tyranny. Today, those lines tragically are blurred.
@anders_aslund Agree. Typical behaviors of psychopaths are easy to recognize. Psychopaths in leadership positions are dangerous and always destructive over time.
