Piers Morgan Says Democrats Lost Voters Over Trans Issues — Marc Lamont Hill Turns the Argument Back on Them
Piers Morgan: If you asked AOC what a woman is, we all know she’d struggle to answer, right?
Marc Lamont Hill: The only struggle would be arriving at a common definition between her and transphobic people who refuse to accept trans people as people and trans women as women.
Piers Morgan: This is where you’re so wrong. The ad attacking Kamala Harris over trans issues reportedly moved the needle by three points.
If you’re a mum with kids in women’s sports, you care about this. You want a candidate who can clearly tell you what a woman is.
I’m not remotely transphobic. Trans people deserve fairness, equality and safety. But not at the expense of women’s rights. That’s why the definition of a woman is so important.
Marc Lamont Hill: We’re not struggling to define what a woman is. You just don’t agree with us. Trans women are women, cis women are women.
There are different experiences and contexts, and we have to be honest about that when making public policy.
The problem was that Kamala Harris allowed the right wing to control the narrative, making it seem like trans issues were all Democrats cared about instead of workers’ rights, living wages and other major issues.
And turning women’s sports into a story about trans people destroying women’s rights is dishonest.
There are plenty of people undermining women’s rights right now, and it isn’t trans people.
Allowing the right to convince voters that this was the big issue in the election is why the Democrats lost.
Benefit of the doubt thought about Annie Andrews:
She chose the "biological men" wording deliberately because she knows trans girls and women aren't men. She can start from the conservative language and educate, slowly.
I don't know that this is the case but I'd hope so
