“There are two ways of approaching change: either you lead the transformation or you let it happen. We intend to lead.”
The music industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and we must adapt to ensure long-term success. In my latest op-ed for @musicbizworld, I outline my vision for how collective management organisations can transform to meet the demands of a global, digital-first market.
At @PRSforMusic, we’ve made great strides, but the future requires more than operational excellence. It calls for bold collaborative action to reshape the society network, eliminate inefficiencies, and foster collaboration across borders to better serve the music creator community.
Songwriters and composers want greater transparency and greater insights on where their songs are being used around the world. They want their money more quickly, with fewer deductions along the way and more control over when royalties arrive. They don’t want to pay for multiple systems in different places to do the same job.
The world won’t wait for us to catch up. By embracing innovation and unity, we can create a more efficient, forward-thinking ecosystem that delivers maximum value to our members and the music creator community we have the privilege to serve. We are already working on new projects and partnerships which will transform the royalty chain for rightsholders, who will begin to see some of the benefits and results of these in 2025.

My congratulations to all of the women recognised at Friday's @MusicWeek Women In Music Awards. Particularly @PRSforMusic's very own Head of PR, Marketing and Digital, @Rupinder_V.
It’s always wonderful to be part of such a positive event that champions incredible women for their impacts in the industry.

Our Head of PR, Marketing, and Digital @Rupinder_V recently spoke to @MusicWeek following her induction to their Women in Music Roll of Honour!

Congratulations to our Head of PR, Marketing and Digital @Rupinder_V, named in the 2024 @MusicWeek Women In Music Roll of Honours which highlights individuals who are ‘game changers’ in the music industry.
Beyond playing a pivotal role at PRS for Music since joining in 2022, Rupinder’s varied and extensive career spans over 20 years in the music industry. To capture just a few of her impressive career highlights: Noticing a gap in the sector, she co-founded The Sikh Press Association in 2014, a news agency representing the British Sikh community. Rupinder also sat on the strategic planning board for The London Week of Peace and is a proud ambassador for the charity, Binti Period, a socially responsible organisation focusing on creating a world where all women have menstrual dignity. She sits on the Comms committee for the Brit School and is an advocate for South Asian music creatives.
Congratulations to Rupinder and all the 2024 Roll Of Honour recipients who will be recognised at the Women In Music ceremony next month.

Great turnout for yesterday's launch of the expanded #GetPaidGuide for music creators.
An essential resource from PRS for Music, @PPLUK, @The_IPO, @IvorsAcademy and @the_mpa providing music creators and artists with information to help them navigate the data needed to ensure they get paid.

Pleasure to chat with @MusicWeek after the #WomenInMusic awards. I look back on my journey from media to tech, and why risk-taking can lead to success. I also discuss my move into the music industry & PRS' focus and big projects in 2024 and beyond. https://t.co/jUfAX64JYJ
@petepaphides That’s a level of disrespect that k see more and more of in journalism. Pretty awful that it’s happening once especially as they’ve comissioned the piece.
Welcome @PRSforMusic new Board Chair @steviespring1 . Huge thx to Stephen Davidson who led the board with skill since 2014, but very excited to work with Stevie… so fabulous to have such a powerful & talented woman at the helm, a first for PRS & demonstrative of meaningful progress across Music. 👏 Onward.
Since 2000 PRS Foundation has given £47m+ to over 8,900 new music initiatives. 5 out of the last 6 @MercuryPrize winners received PRS Foundation support (inc. 2023 winner @EzraCollective)
If you're thinking of applying for funding & support in 2024 - check out the deadlines 📅⬇️
If you thought yesterday's graph was horrifying. Take a look at how songwriters are doing.
It takes a while to write a song.
Data from the brilliant @thetrichordist. It's a #BrokenRecord Business. (estimations based on norms)
