@mfjlewis AL literally does not address abuse in the footnote. That’s why it needs to be updated/clarified. There are guidelines for people in non abusive situations to be obedient & receive communion. They can avoid sex, or keep having sex & rely on their conscience. No one will stop them

@mfjlewis I don’t have talking points & I consider those people tiresome. Yes, have tried. But I can’t just erase what I know from when I digested the Church’s older discipline. People in the situation can have absolution (& communion) by confessing unchastity & intending to live chastity.

@mfjlewis 2. And wrt to people who “want to live the Catholic ideal but fall short” that’s everyone! That’s what confession’s for. AL’s upshot is some adulterous sex no longer needs to be absolved before communion, bc it’s unlike other sins, bc of “complexity.”

@mfjlewis It didn’t help, but the substance was there to have problems with. I think the Curia just doesn’t have a theory of mind for people who believe for reasons and not due to cultural/tribal aspects. Of course they would feel humiliation, grief etc
