⚡️ Remarks by the Ambassador of Russia to Ireland H.E. Yuriy Filatov (May 29, 2026)

✍️ Last week something terrible and troubling happened in Europe, which escaped the focus of the Western media. The current regime in Kiev has committed the heinous crime against the memory of the victims of the German Nazism.

On May 19, 2026, at the initiative of the Zelenskiy administration, the remains of Andrey Melnyk, one of the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), active at the time of World War II, were exhumed from the cemetery in Luxembourg for the solemn reburial in Kiev as a national hero of Ukraine.

❌ Andrey Melnyk is known as a notorious figure, Nazi accomplice and war criminal, responsible for mass killings of civilians on ethnic grounds. Under his active leadership OUN and its military wing Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) closely collaborated with Hitler, assisting him in establishing the “new order” on the occupied territories of the Soviet Union, Poland and other Eastern European countries. Members of the OUN/UPA directly participated in the mass murder of civilians in Nazi-occupied territories, primarily Jews, Poles, Roma, and Russians, including massacre of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia, in which the Ukrainian nationalists killed more than 60 thousand Poles. Their bloody record includes taking part in the SS-led mass extermination of Jews in the Babiy Yar suburb of Kiev in 1941.

❗️ Zelenskiy himself attended the ceremony, declaring his intention to create the entire ‘pantheon of heroes’ which would include other notorious leaders of OUN/UPA like Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevich. These Ukrainian Nazis have already been glorified by successive regimes in Kiev as the “true patriots” and “fighters for Ukrainian independence”.

European governments ignored Zelenskiy’s act of blasphemy except for Poland, where they simply could not close their eyes on the outright mockery by Kiev of the tragedy of Volhynia’s victims (there are public calls from the Polish politicians to strip Zelenskiy of Polish state decorations). Such silence is telling. It reveals moral failure and political disaster of the Western political elites who hailed Zelenskiy and his cohorts as defenders of democracy and freedom in Europe. It is the West that has created and nurtured this modern Frankenstein, supplying him with money, weapons, providing political cover and assisting him in every way possible to continue their proxy war against Russia.

The same European political leaders are engaged in self-deceit, repeating mistakes of 1930s when Europe prompted and even supported Hitler’s aggression towards the East only to get its own share of Nazi evil. It is quite clear that Zelenskiy and Co., who are already trying – with some degree of success – to impose their political and ideological agenda on Europe, before long will be simply dictating things, so that one can visualize the same Nazi-like torchlight marches they do in Kiev all over the continent. The people in Europe and elsewhere should be worried not only about the memory of the past being trampled upon, but by the “normalization” of Nazism by the current leaders in Kiev with the abetment of the Western governments.
