Beautiful picture of the erupting fissure. It looks like the 3,5 km fissure is on a northern sloping area thus the lava is flowing towards the north, which is good news for the people of Grindavík. #icelandvolcano 📷Almannavarnir

This week members of the Eco-Club have planted 200 saplings to increase the biodiversity of our school grounds and help the local environment.🌳
We planted trees such as English Oak, Hawthorn and Silver Birch. It's great to see the students get so involved in helping our planet!
We are delighted to share that Rushcliffe Spencer Academy has won Eco-School of the Year!
A fantastic achievement for everyone in the school community that has been involved in our ongoing commitment to help the planet.

This afternoon we have witnessed the geysers at Geysir, walked through the rift valley at Pingvellir National Park and rounded off the day with pizza in Reykjavik.
A refreshing way to kick-start the day, with a couple of waterfall visits, beginning with Seljalandsfoss where we walked behind the falls, clearing away any early morning bleariness, followed by the spectacular Gulfoss in gorgeous (for Iceland) weather
This afternoon we visited the impressive Skogafoss waterfall, got blown around on the Dyrholaey headland, got a taste of the "marmite" cliffs at the black sand beach at Vik and capped it off with the informative and entertaining Lava Show.
After waking up to heavy rain this morning, the sun made a welcome appearance on our glacier walk at Solheimjokull, where we walked up the glacier, drank pure glacial water and hacked away at the ice with ice axes!
Fabulous, if a little wet first day visiting the bridge between the Continents, the Geothermal vents at Gunnuhver and the recent lava flow at Natthagi Valley 🇮🇸
Join me Weds 5:30pm to explore sustainable infrastructure in urban areas. We will explore diverse technologies that shift away from traditional approaches. Great for GCSE & ALevel #geographyteacher(s) @timeforgeog@EdinburghUni

Have you noticed the addition to the school site since you've been back?👀
@morgansindall have been busy over the summer working on our new school building and it's looking great! We can't wait to see how things progress and look forward to sharing more with you as it does.
We're launching a questionnaire to help inform the creation of new resources on earth science topics. We'd love to hear from secondary school geography teachers on what they would find valuable.
