I am asking for help for my 4-year-old daughter Eva. She has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 3, a progressive disease that gradually takes away muscle strength. Eva is still able to walk independently, but we are already seeing weakness in her legs, especially in her thigh muscles. Running and different types of jumping are becoming harder for her. She has not lost her ability to walk, and this is why we need to start treatment as soon as possible. Eva needs Spinraza (nusinersen), a therapy aimed at increasing the production of functional SMN protein, which is insufficient in SMA. Treatment can help preserve her motor functions and the skills she has already developed. Eva’s intelligence is developing normally, and her breathing and swallowing are not affected. She is a little girl who wants to run, jump, play with her friends, and simply enjoy her childhood. As her father, I am scared that without timely treatment, SMA will continue to take away her strength. I am asking everyone who can support us to please help Eva.
