@m_m_callaghan @runliftrunlift Bingo. How old was this guy? If he was under 45 and ran 140km weeks for months and 'only' ran 2:55 I don't see how that's spectacular. With that kind of volume most healthy males should be well inside 2:50 at least, if not faster.
@andywaterman I've always thought the Spring marathon a poisoned chalice. Slog yourself in the pitch black, freezing wind and cold and race in lovely 22 degrees and sunny. Or train in the light and warm and race in 10 degrees in the Autumn. No brainer!
@DeeBeeCW 'Recovery 10'. No, you're training. You recover when you stop. Another running specific one is 'fartlek session' which involves perfect 2, 3, 4, 5 (etc) minute efforts. You've done an interval session, just because it's not on a track doesn't make everything 'fartlek'. Stop it.
@mcdicarlo1@andywaterman I never questioned the amount of oxygen available. I was querying the adaptions required to run with the oxygen available. A person born and raised from a lineage of ancestors also raised at high altitude is surely more likely to be adapted to those demands than one who hasn't.
@mcdicarlo1@andywaterman Aren't altitude conversions typically for a sea-level born and raised athlete training at higher elevations? Whilst the altitude will clearly slow Kipchoge down a bit, it seems far-fetched to think it will have the same effect as on a sea-level dweller.
@andywaterman To be fair the 10k was correct. The marathon was a misplaced cone out towards Rottingdean. It was 260m too far and so error Wass doubled.. Oops
@andywaterman I have very faint recollections of seeing a video of Jess Ennis doing something like 6x150m hills as very 'horrible aerobic' session. They're sprinters!
@andywaterman I imagine it's almost non-existent. Every other event they do is power and speed based. They're definitely not doing a '10 steady' on a Sunday morning. I very much doubt they run more than 400m intervals in training tbh.
@andywaterman Yup. He's so out of touch with reality. Who's going to choose to spend ยฃ4k a year and 3 hours a day commuting to buy said coffee when they could happily do most of their job at home and use their local shops? The horse bolted the stable a while ago!
