I made that very point on @timesradio this week! If the heatwave was north of Watford and the South/London was chilly you’d barely hear about the heatwave.
By 1956 Stan had suffered his stroke & Ollie was unwell & losing weight.
But, as this last lovely film shows, whilst they were both fragile & ailing their love for each other & genius humour was in no way diminished.
You only have to ask to know. British passengers would have had to stifle in the airless heat, for ‘safety reasons’ .Britain is under the tyranny of ambulance-chasing lawyers, thanks to Thatcher and Major.
@JasonPalmer1971@beatrismouse@ClarkeMicah It is, the Elizabeth line was a big investment, it was built. There are no major European countries that just have their capital with plenty of public transport. Smaller cities than Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds have far more. Too much spent on the most inefficient way to move
Yes, she is. What happened to her at work; the way she was cross-examined; the terrible possibility that, even if exonerated, she will have lost her chance to have a child..
No it didn’t. Illegal migrants used to come in large numbers as stowaways on trucks etc. But tech advances such as screening made that much more detectable. So they took to boats. How many times do I have to explain this?
.@peteragoring6. The state does take life. It doees so deliberatley in war, it does so by implicatioin, by maintaining armed forces and by arming the police. It does so by permitting abortion on demand. It does so indirectly by pursuing a transport policy which leads to hundreds of avoidable deaths a year. It does so by maintaining types opf prison in which many suicides are guaranteed to take place in any given year.
.@rupert_debare. It is notable that the Western powers absolutely did not intervene in the Rwanda massacre, and won't intervene in Sudan,. These are the two closest parallels to Nazi extermination in modern times. The claim that intervention is humanitarian in aim is a flat lie. The Allies knew very well about Auschwitz and did nothing about that either.
2/2 .I would like to know what was the pressing reason for arresting Ms Letby early in the morning when she was still in bed, and why she was chained in handcuffs? I know of no reason to believe she was a flight risk, or that she was likely to be violent in custody. So why?
