Would love to see this tomorrow with the FOX OTA for the US game. Will it be closer to true live because Fox produces content out of LA, or do we get the world feed out of the IBC in Dallas? The broadcast latency for Qatar to Los Angeles in ‘22 was around 4.5 seconds for Fox OTA verified using a friend at a match linking game clock time to Zulu time.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 Godspeed. I wish you and your countrymen well and hope that one day you come to your senses and remove mechanisms your government uses to stifle speech. My country needs to improve too, not only on speech but in many other ways.
It is the perfect example of my point - the chilling effects on free speech in the UK. It is proven to be legal, you should not fear any repercussions, arrest, or even the inconvenience that would come from being approached or questioned by police. Are you 100% confident you could do that and be ignored? Then that's how you know you're free. But then how far can you go without police intervention?
Some portion of 12,000 people have their speech chilled annually. You can excuse it, chalk it up to corresponding illegal actions, note that the outcome corrected it, but all you are doing is minimize the clear impact that has on speech. I gave you an easy way of proving me wrong - speech that has already been adjudicated as allowed. So you should have no issue standing outside of Buckinham or other prominent crown properties. No police should approach you, question you, detain you, etc. You have nothing to fear.
Yes, but this would never make it to court and the threat wouldn’t be necessary at this stage. There are many government agencies that would happily intervene on the consumer’s behalf to hold a company to a contract. If then company was foolish enough to continue on their ill-advised path then Massachusetts has treble damages for cases such as these.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 It’s ok, how much is the train? Maybe I can meet you in London so I can watch how long it takes before you are approached by police. If you want to do it more local to you I’m sure we could come up with a similar test.
Nope, the threshold for defamation is so high a defendant in his shoes would never need to retain counsel because the courts wouldn’t even accept a case such as this. If you are speaking of the contract dispute, that wouldn’t necessitate a lawyer as the amount is so low he could handle it in small claims court… but the company would be foolish to let it get that far.
Exactly, I gave you the easiest and most innocuous example I could find with a few minutes of searching. Police will always accuse of additional crimes, but the arrest is because of speech. Seems to me like you’re afraid the police might not have learned their lesson and don’t truly believe that arrests/detention are not punishments. Go ahead, or do you need money for the train?
I’m giving you an easy one. If you are so sure you can say it why don’t you test to see if you suffer the same fate as Symon Hill? Worst case scenario you get arrested and then compensated, which you don’t see as a punishment or having a chilling effect on speech. Best case, you prove police have learned their lesson and your speech is unfettered. The statement is true and wouldn’t raise an eyebrow in the US. Go for it.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 You are so close, but just don’t get it. He never made it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. You don’t get a full chamber up/down vote unless you make it out of committee. Many have suffered similar fates, even Supreme Court nominees.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 My point stands. Events leading to his death included police detention and not aid. Is that untrue? Yes, I subsequently made the speech element clear, I assumed you were smart enough to see the link.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 Close, but that’s a partisan take. Legal scholars chalk it up to the Senate procedure used by the GOP… seeing as they did control the chamber.
@Kev_OC66@DeanCornish1966 Well he was detained because the attacker did accuse him of hate speech? Even if his wounds were already mortal, your police put him through detention procedures without noticing or tending to his wounds.
Chambers “bomb threat” wasn’t actionable and clearly said in frustration - even “threats” like these are given leeway in the US. Chelsea had a lengthy legal process, that’s time consuming, stressful, and expensive. Miller & Linehan have both expressed displeasure at their detainments. Why don’t you go outside Buckingham Palace with a sign that says “Who elected him?”
You can say it’s for their own protection or for the protection of the public, but any arrest for speech needs to be questioned. You might not see a temporary deprivation of liberty as punishment, but that’s exactly what an arrest/detention is. Your country should realize that with Henry Nowak. Didn’t he die because police restrained him instead of helping him?
@Kev_OC66@thoughtidsay@DeanCornish1966 The process of being arrested is a punishment in itself. The person loses freedoms temporarily and is not free to leave.
Wouldn't 1 arrest for true speech be too many? You can get cute with how you classify arrests and detentions, but that number is shocking and includes thousands of people that should've been left alone by the government. Why don't you take your pick and say what got the police involved in any of those cases above?
