@lmharpin Have you actually read the motion, why not share it so people can make their own minds up ? At the moment people seemed to raging against headlines rather than facts.
@0Calamity My local looked into this and concluded that legally the council could not insist all councillors were DBS. The only thing they could recommend was that each political party got DBS checks for candidates before elections.
"I remember.. the night we rejected every possible arrangement with the EU"
Yep. The vote to include a Customs Union was defeated 276-273. 5 LibDems & 11 TIGs voted against. They could have voted for & made the Tories implode but they didnt want to do anything that helped Corbyn
This is a fair question. Musicians have always steered clear of politics.
Oh, except Woody Guthrie, Gil Scott-Heron, Dylan, Marley, Lennon, The Clash, Nina Simone, Public Enemy, The Specials, The Manics, Tracy Chapman, Fela Kuti, Curtis Mayfield, NWA, The Jam, Billy Bragg...
@glaisian Its weird the BBC are trying to rewrite history by erasing any reference to the long heritage of protest songs from Woodie Guthrie and Billie Holiday, to Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Ewan Mcoll, Peggy Seger, The Specials, The Jam, Billy Bragg etc etc
@0Calamity Its odd the BBC R4 Today programme had a whole debate like musicians expressing political opinions was a new strange thing ins society with no reference to the history of protest songs from Billie Holiday and Woodie Guthrie to Sam Fender and everyone in between.
@Thelma_DWalker I know I find this line the BBC are taking very odd. On R4 Today programme the other day they had a debate about musicians expressing political opinions was a new strange thing in society with no reference of the history of protest songs.
If our politicians had spent the last 30 years explaining that those fleeing persecution are not ‘illegal’ and had not deliberately caused the housing and poverty crisis we would not have black shirted thugs on our streets. Nor would we have Reform, restore or Tommy Robinson.
@Anniepop2027@UKLabour@LBC@SkyNews I think it's revenge of a northern woman who Starmer threw under the bus and lied about. Haigh is obviously smarter than Starmer.
