I was so excited I ran home and told my mom. Big mistake. She was mad. She made me find the man and return the money. He tried to refuse, but with my mom watching, I had to insist. I let him keep the picture.

So, anyway, that's when I learned my art is worthless.

When I was 8 I glued some pine needles and flowers to construction paper and set up an art booth outside the apartment complex's laundry room. A man came by and bought one that looked like a unicorn for fifty cents (Fifty cents! Even though I only asked for a quarter!)

My autistic kid has a fear of spiders, and her science teacher is upset that she's refusing to do the work during their spider segment of class. Like, I get it, kids need to do their classwork to pass, but also who the hell makes a 6th grade science class all about spiders?

Because it's not about me. It's about them, and providing the support they need while discovering who they are.

My oldest child told me that "my motivating support has fallen a bit flat" because I haven't been using gender neutral pronouns, even though the last time we spoke, gendered and non were okay. I was a little offended. I've always tried to be supportive.
