Before any experiment, any trial, any publication, there is a question.
The research course explores solid research methodology, for pre-clinical & clinical research.

🔍 The upcoming Super Bowl will feature the NE Patriots vs. the Seattle Seahawks, a revisit of their prior matchup in 2015.
When teams run it back years later, they’re not just relying on memory alone… they’re obsessing over film, poring over every snap from their last matchup: what worked, what didn’t, and what’s changed in the lineup.
🩺🎥🏅 If every surgery had “game film,” what would be the #1 value? (Let us know in the comments)
a. Spotting steps linked to higher complication risk
b. Comparing technique across surgeons / institutions c. Tracking improvement over time (skill trajectory)
d. Creating coaching moments for trainees
e. Faster onboarding and skill-building for junior surgeons
f. Building a global library of best practices
g. All of the above
✍️ Inside the SDSC Fellows’ Research Community Newsletter
At SDSC, collaboration drives innovation. The SDSC Fellows’ Research Community was founded on one simple belief: that the future of surgery will be shaped by the partnerships we build today.
We created the SDSC Fellows’ Research Community Newsletter because collaboration doesn’t just drive research, it sustains a movement. Each edition brings together:
🧠 New perspectives on advancing surgical research
📅 Updates on upcoming events like our Data Science Roundtable
🔬 Highlights from members’ ongoing research and publications
📢 Announcements about research funding opportunities and grants
🌍 Spotlights on groundbreaking projects that embody the spirit of our community
The newsletter exists to celebrate collaboration, amplify innovation, and connect our community—because together, we can transform surgical research and care.

When my grandmother passed away, my grandfather was left alone in his house. Whenever I went to visit him, he was always by himself and didn't want anyone to move in with him. So, I came up with the idea of giving him a little dog that I had rescued from the street.
When he received it, he named it 'Chirulin'. They do everything together: sunbathe, eat, go for walks, watch TV, etc. A few days ago, my grandfather fell ill and during those days he wrote me a letter on how to treat and take care of 'Chirulin', in case he didn't make it out of the hospital. He also wrote me the recipe for the soup he prepares for 'Chirulin'. And I could only think of asking him to also write me the recipe for living without him, without my grandfather.
He entrusted 'Chirulin' to the whole family. Yesterday he was discharged and of course, we brought 'Chirulin' to him. He hugged him and whispered: "We need to hurry and do all those things we have left to do together, there's not much time," and he started laughing... Yes, my grandfather made a list of things he wants to do in the company of 'Chirulin', his faithful friend. Just seeing how 'Chirulin' looks at him, you can understand how much they love each other.
And to those who say it's just a dog, I say: "animals are a gift for the soul, a gym to learn tolerance, respect, love. Love, the true kind, that doesn't divide but unites. Loving teaches us to love."

🎉 @NASBSorg 2025 Annual Meeting was a milestone for SDSC! Two years after our first attendance, it was inspiring to see our Surgical Video Platform (SVP) grow from an idea to a platform enabling researchers to publish & present their work. #NASBS holds a special place in our hearts! ❤️
✅ Our Director of ML, Margaux Masson-Forsythe delivered a standout talk on #AI in surgical research & care.
✅ SVP workshops with Dr. @RuthLauMD & Dr. @jo_chainey sparked collaboration & feedback to shape the platform’s future.
✅We received 50+ skull base neurosurgery case videos from @drjfm_stanford and @michaelthechang at @StanfordNsurg and @StanfordOHNS and 13 additional cases from two other key contributors, enriching our datasets and research resources.
Thank you to everyone who supports our mission! Let’s keep building the future together. 🙌
