As a rule I prefer to make portraits from life - but I broke this one for Cassia, who lost her Mum far too soon.
Shirley loved people and parties, I hope wherever she is she's wearing a party frock and her good earrings.

This is a monster canvas (as tall as me on it's side) I found it very hard yesterday to get going on it. It filled me with equal parts of anitcipation and trepidation which gave me a sudden urge to decalcify the taps and dead leaf the plants... #startingnevergetsanyeasier
