Maybe it could be triggered with a two finger swipe from off the edge of the device? That way it wouldnโt interfere with the swipe back gesture and would make it harder to accidentally invoke.

Maybe adding a context menu when long-pressing an app on the home screen could let you decide to open it as a Slide Over app.

I was thinking of simplifying the multitasking experience. Does slide over really need to exist? It goes against the fundamental nature of iPad windowing.
