@Palmer3175 @UKMathsTrust prob it’s a good. maths is not only about solving 25 relatively simple problems in an hour. harder and unusual problems give more opportunity to develop. some kids are not that quick, or make stupid mistakes on simple problems under pressure, but can go hard and deep in maths.

@alexbellos Maybe selection on the top is part of the reason, but there are other factors - maths is not seen as socially cool, negative social pressure at a young age, lack of problem-solving in curriculum, and parents of girls making all sorts of 'girl appropriate' choices of clubs etc
