2011, When A$AP Rocky released https://t.co/Leoq9CdMx0.A$AP, he was still an unknown rapper outside of New York, but the mixtape changed everything almost overnight. The buzz really started when the song “Peso” began spreading across blogs and radio before the full tape even dropped.

What made the project stand out was the sound, instead of the typical New York style at the time, Rocky leaned heavily into Houston influences like slowed down beats and chopped & screwed inspiration. The mixtape also helped introduce a lot of people to producers like Clams Casino, whose atmospheric production became a huge part of the tape’s identity.
