Hoje, a Embaixada de Ruanda recebeu a Secretária Executiva de Articulação Nacional de Santa Catarina, Vânia Franco, e o Secretário de Articulação Internacional, Paulo Bornhausen, para dar continuidade às agendas construídas ao longo dos últimos meses entre Ruanda e o estado de Santa Catarina. O encontro teve como foco o avanço do Memorando de Entendimento na área da educação, bem como os preparativos para uma missão catarinense a Ruanda no segundo semestre. Também foram discutidas oportunidades para aproximar universidades, instituições, empresas e entidades dos dois lados, promovendo intercâmbio de conhecimento, cooperação institucional e novas oportunidades de negócios, investimento e abertura de mercados.

Today, the Embassy of Rwanda welcomed Santa Catarina’s Executive Secretary for National Articulation, Vânia Franco, and Secretary for International Articulation, Paulo Bornhausen, to advance the agenda that Rwanda and the State of Santa Catarina have been building over the past months. Discussions focused on moving forward with a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of education, as well as preparations for a Santa Catarina delegation to visit Rwanda in the second half of the year. The meeting also explored ways to connect universities, institutions, companies, and organizations from both sides, fostering knowledge exchange, institutional cooperation, investment opportunities, and stronger market linkages.

Ontem pela manhã, o Salão Nobre da Reitoria da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) recebeu a cerimônia do #Kwibuka32, reunindo autoridades acadêmicas, estudantes, pesquisadores, representantes da sociedade civil e membros da comunidade diplomática para honrar a memória das vítimas do Genocídio contra os Tutsi em Ruanda, em 1994. Em um momento de profunda reflexão e solidariedade, os participantes acompanharam o acendimento de velas e um minuto de silêncio em homenagem às mais de um milhão de vidas perdidas, além de testemunhos emocionantes e debates sobre as causas do genocídio, a responsabilidade coletiva da memória, a prevenção de futuras atrocidades e os processos de reconstrução e reconciliação que transformaram Ruanda nas últimas três décadas. A Embaixada de Ruanda agradece à Reitoria da UFBA, à Superintendência de Relações Internacionais, ao Professor Jonnas Vasconcelos, à Dra. Camila Andrade e a Paulo Pan pelas valiosas reflexões compartilhadas com os convidados e participantes. Somos igualmente gratos a todos que contribuíram para este importante exercício de memória, educação e conscientização. Ao recordar o passado, fortalecemos nosso compromisso com a verdade, a dignidade humana e a construção de um futuro em que o ódio, a intolerância e o genocídio não tenham lugar.

Yesterday morning, the Grand Hall of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) hosted the #Kwibuka32 commemoration, bringing together academic leaders, students, researchers, civil society representatives, and members of the diplomatic community to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. In a moment of profound reflection and solidarity, participants took part in a candle-lighting ceremony and a minute of silence in memory of the more than one million lives lost, while also engaging with moving testimonies and discussions on the root causes of genocide, the collective responsibility to remember, the prevention of future atrocities, and the reconstruction and reconciliation processes that have transformed Rwanda over the past three decades. The Embassy of Rwanda extends its sincere gratitude to the UFBA Rectorate, the International Relations Office, Professor Jonnas Vasconcelos, Dr. Camila Andrade, and Paulo Pan for the valuable insights shared with guests and participants. We are equally grateful to everyone who contributed to this meaningful exercise in remembrance, education, and awareness. By remembering the past, we strengthen our commitment to truth, human dignity, and the building of a future where hatred, intolerance, and genocide have no place.

Ainda em Salvador, o Embaixador Lawrence Manzi reuniu-se com o Secretário de Turismo da Bahia, Maurício Bacelar, para uma conversa produtiva sobre o potencial transformador do turismo como ferramenta de desenvolvimento econômico, intercâmbio cultural e aproximação entre povos. O encontro permitiu a troca de experiências e conhecimentos entre Ruanda e Bahia, destacando oportunidades de cooperação em áreas como capacitação profissional, programas de treinamento online, intercâmbio de técnicos e especialistas do setor, além da promoção conjunta de destinos e boas práticas de gestão turística. A reunião também reforçou o convite para uma futura visita institucional a Ruanda e a continuidade das iniciativas que vêm aproximando o país do mercado turístico brasileiro, fortalecendo os laços entre Ruanda e Bahia em uma agenda voltada para inovação, qualificação e crescimento sustentável do turismo.

As part of Salvador agenda, Ambassador Lawrence Manzi met with Bahia’s Secretary of Tourism, Maurício Bacelar, for a productive discussion on the transformative role of tourism as a driver of economic development, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections. The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences and expertise between Rwanda and Bahia, highlighting potential areas of cooperation such as professional capacity building, online training programs, exchanges of tourism professionals and technical experts, as well as the promotion of destinations and the sharing of best practices in tourism management. The discussion also reinforced an invitation for a future institutional visit to Rwanda and the continuation of recent initiatives that have brought Rwanda closer to the Brazilian tourism market, further strengthening the ties between Rwanda and Bahia through a shared agenda focused on innovation, skills development, and sustainable tourism growth.

O Embaixador Lawrence Manzi visitou a sede da André Guimarães Engenharia e Infraestrutura, em Salvador, Bahia, onde se reuniu com o CEO Elmar Varjão e sua equipe para conhecer a trajetória da empresa, seus projetos de engenharia pesada, infraestrutura, desenvolvimento imobiliário e obras de grande porte no Brasil e no exterior. Durante o encontro, foram apresentadas experiências e cases de sucesso em áreas como infraestrutura urbana, construção industrial, energia e soluções estruturantes, além de serem discutidas oportunidades de cooperação em Ruanda nos setores de desenvolvimento imobiliário, infraestrutura e barragens. A reunião também resultou em um convite para uma missão empresarial ao país e na perspectiva de uma visita de lideranças da empresa a Ruanda ainda este mês para aprofundar o diálogo e explorar novas oportunidades de investimento, parceria e transferência de conhecimento.

Ambassador Lawrence Manzi visited the headquarters of André Guimarães Engenharia e Infraestrutura in Salvador, Bahia, where he met with CEO Elmar Varjão and his team to learn more about the company’s track record in heavy engineering, infrastructure, real estate development, and large-scale projects in Brazil and abroad. The meeting featured presentations on the company’s experience and successful projects in urban infrastructure, industrial construction, energy, and other strategic sectors, while also exploring opportunities in Rwanda related to real estate development, infrastructure, and dam construction. The discussions concluded with an invitation for a business mission to Rwanda and the prospect of a high-level company delegation visiting the country later this month to further advance cooperation and explore new opportunities for investment, partnership, and knowledge exchange.

Ontem, a Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS) recebeu a cerimônia do #Kwibuka32, reunindo estudantes, professores, autoridades, representantes da sociedade civil e membros da comunidade para recordar as vítimas do Genocídio contra os Tutsi em Ruanda, em 1994. A programação teve início com a tradicional Walk to Remember pelo campus, um momento de reflexão coletiva e solidariedade, seguido pelo acendimento de velas em homenagem às mais de um milhão de vidas perdidas. Ao longo do evento, palestrantes e participantes abordaram temas essenciais como a prevenção de futuros genocídios, o combate ao discurso de ódio e ao divisionismo nas redes sociais, os perigos do negacionismo e o papel da juventude, da educação e das universidades na construção de uma cultura de paz. Agradecemos à Reitoria da UNIFACS, aos professores, estudantes, convidados e a todos que contribuíram para tornar este momento de memória, aprendizado e compromisso tão significativo. Yesterday, Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS) hosted the #Kwibuka32 commemoration, bringing together students, academics, authorities, civil society representatives, and community members to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The program began with the traditional Walk to Remember across the campus, a moment of collective reflection and solidarity, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the more than one million lives lost. Throughout the event, speakers and participants engaged in meaningful discussions on preventing future genocides, countering hate speech and divisionism on social media, addressing the dangers of genocide denial, and highlighting the role of youth, education, and universities in building a culture of peace. We extend our sincere gratitude to the UNIFACS leadership, professors, students, guests, and everyone who helped make this commemoration so meaningful. By remembering, we honor the victims; by reflecting, we strengthen our shared humanity; and by taking action, we renew our collective commitment to “Never Again.”

Paralelamente ao evento em celebração ao Dia Mundial Sem Tabaco 2026, realizado pelo Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA) no Rio de Janeiro, a Embaixada de Ruanda no Brasil participou de uma reunião com o Diretor-Geral do INCA, Roberto Gil, e com o representante da OPAS/OMS no Brasil, Cristian Morales. O encontro foi uma oportunidade para discutir possibilidades de cooperação entre Brasil e Ruanda na prevenção e combate ao câncer e outras doenças crônicas não transmissíveis, fortalecendo o diálogo para futuras iniciativas de intercâmbio de conhecimento, cooperação técnica e parcerias institucionais na área da saúde.

On the sidelines of the World No Tobacco Day 2026 event, organized by Brazil’s National Cancer Institute (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro, the Embassy of Rwanda in Brazil took part in a meeting with INCA’s Director-General Roberto Gil and the PAHO/WHO Representative in Brazil, Cristian Morales. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss potential cooperation between Brazil and Rwanda in the prevention and fight against cancer and other noncommunicable diseases, strengthening dialogue for future knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, and institutional partnerships in the health sector.

A Embaixada de Ruanda no Brasil realizou uma reunião com o Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia (INC), com a participação da Diretora Dra. Aurora Issa e da Dra. Helena Cramer, Coordenadora de Ensino e Pesquisa do INC. O encontro foi uma importante oportunidade para discutir possibilidades de cooperação na área da cardiologia, a partir do Memorando de Entendimento em Saúde entre Brasil e Ruanda, incluindo iniciativas de treinamento, fellowships, intercâmbios acadêmicos e compartilhamento de experiências e conhecimentos entre instituições dos dois países.

The Embassy of Rwanda in Brazil held a meeting with the National Institute of Cardiology (INC), with the participation of Director Dr. Aurora Issa and Dr. Helena Cramer, Coordinator of Education and Research at INC. The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss potential cooperation in the field of cardiology under the Health Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and Rwanda, including training initiatives, fellowships, academic exchanges, and the sharing of expertise and experiences between institutions from both countries.

A Embaixada de Ruanda no Brasil participou do painel “Diálogos Entre Brasil e Ruanda Sobre Economia Criativa Como Vetor de Desenvolvimento Sustentável”, realizado no palco MinC Conecta, a convite da Secretaria de Economia Criativa do Ministério da Cultura @CulturaGovBr .

O painel contou com a presença do Embaixador Lawrence Manzi @Lawrence_Manzi , da Secretária de Economia Criativa Claudia Leitão @ClaudiaSLeitao e de Adriana Barbosa @adrianapretatt , fundadora do Ecossistema Feira Preta, que atuou como mediadora da conversa.

O encontro destacou como a economia criativa tem sido um importante motor de transformação e desenvolvimento sustentável em Ruanda, impulsionando setores como turismo, cultura, inovação, audiovisual, moda e empreendedorismo jovem, além de fortalecer a identidade cultural do país e gerar novas oportunidades econômicas e sociais.

The Embassy of Rwanda in Brazil took part in the panel “Dialogues Between Brazil and Rwanda on the Creative Economy as a Driver of Sustainable Development”, held at the MinC Conecta stage, following an invitation from the Secretariat of Creative Economy of Brazil’s Ministry of Culture.

The panel featured Ambassador Lawrence Manzi, Secretary of Creative Economy Claudia Leitão, and Adriana Barbosa, founder of the Feira Preta Ecosystem, who moderated the discussion.

The conversation highlighted how the creative economy has become a key driver of transformation and sustainable development in Rwanda, fostering sectors such as tourism, culture, innovation, audiovisual production, fashion, and youth entrepreneurship, while also strengthening the country’s cultural identity and creating new economic and social opportunities.

The event brought together government authorities, diplomatic representatives, academics, and members of civil society to strengthen dialogue on cooperation, trade, science, culture, and integration between Brazil and African countries, reaffirming the importance of Africa-Brazil partnerships in building a future of shared opportunities. On the occasion, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also hosted a luncheon for members of the African Diplomatic Corps, further strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Brazil and the African continent.🌍🇷🇼🇧🇷
