Today DG @CMuvunyi , concluded a 2-day working visit to @TheBgiGroup Headquarters in #Shenzhen and @Hangzhou_CHINA 🇨🇳.

During the visit, Prof. Muvunyi toured BGI’s GigaLab, central clinical laboratory, and key research facilities to learn about advanced technologies and research in multi-mics and precision #Medicine .

He also held strategic discussions with BGI #Genomics , #BGI -Research, and BGI #college to explore strengthening collaborations in genomics, joint research, and capacity building — key steps toward localizing precision medicine in #Rwanda and building a resilient, sustainable health system, empowered by #AI and advanced #bioinformatics.

This visit marks an important milestone in advancing Rwanda’s vision for innovation-driven #healthcare.

This morning, Minister @NsanzimanaSabin and Amb Minata SAMATE CESSOUMA, the Commissioner for Health, and Social Development at the African Union inaugurated the new Africa Medicines Agency (AMA) headquarters in Rwanda, marking a significant milestone for healthcare on the continent. The handover included a fully equipped building, vehicles, and essential resources to support AMA's mission. Selected as host nation at the 2022 AU Summit, Rwanda will facilitate AMA’s pivotal role in standardizing and regulating medicines across Africa.

Reflecting on our recently concluded successful @SynBioAfrica #conference in #Nairobi, Kenya, we were thrilled to have two distinguished policy makers as guest speakers: Hon. @DenisNaughten , Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Union @IPUparliament Working Group on #Science and #Technology and Member of Parliament in Ireland, who joined virtually, and Hon. @RoseObigah , Member of @Parliament_Ug , as #ChiefGuest.

Hon. Naughten's keynote address highlighted the crucial role that policy makers and Members of Parliament play in establishing the rules and standards for technology development across Africa. As the continent's largest emerging market for new technology, Africa stands at a critical juncture where strategic policy decisions can drive sustainable growth and innovation.

Hon. Rose Obigah, Chief Guest, reinforced this message by emphasizing the importance of clear communication between scientists and policy makers. She called for greater support from governments and donors for scientific research and stressed the need for more policy makers to attend scientific conferences.
