Many amateurs wait until the top of the backswing to initiate the downswing. Elite players do not.
When we look at force plate data from the best ball strikers in the world, the majority begin pushing against the ground well before the backswing is complete.
These ground reaction forces help decelerate the pelvis so the player can lead with the lower body on the downswing. Force precedes motion.

"My goal is to be the No. 1 player in the world."
Ahead of his second pro start @ISCOChamp, @PGATOURU Accelerated alum Jackson Koivun breaks down the swing that could help him get there.
Struggling with golf? This is why a lot of baseball players have lots of clubhead speed but can’t play great golf. Learning to apply the correct torque into the handle to square up the club face and hit straighter shots is key. Here is a great feeling for all you baseball
Young Rory compared to old is fascinating. As a young wiry kid he had amazing fluidity and range of motion which slotted that club in beautifully at the top all day long. Like Woods, Faldo, Duval, DeChambeau and many others, their pursuit of more power sees them bulking up and changing body composition. Bigger biceps, bigger chest, stronger legs, bigger back etc. But there is a balance between brute strength and range of motion/elasticity. It is fascinating to see how his swing has changed and how much work he puts into trying to get it back to his younger version by folding the trail arm and getting it more infront with less hand depth. He’s still incredible obviously but the lesson might be to keep the range of motion as you become “golf strong”. It’s a tough sport to train for to keep that balance.
