@birgitomo It was the same for Violence Against Women over 50 presentation at a healthcare and social services conference until I made a comment on it and requested better representation on the visuals. I don’t look anything like that!

@birgitomo She was wearing the keffiyeh as a protest in her workplace. This was not about her skin colour. This was about her inappropriate actions in violation of workplace safety and about her abuse of her position. Yes, there is racism in Canada but this is not an example of such.

Some good moves in healthcare in #Budget2024 .

And while many MDs make a good living, for those incorporated MDs who don't (looking at family physicians in particular) there's some pretty bad news in this years budget with the capital gains changes making sustainable private offices even worse.

People go to where they're treated best. If there's an exodus of providers from an area of care, its because they can be treated better elsewhere. In some cases this is working environment, in others its because they can be paid more. With these tax changes, I think many incorporated providers in lower paying specialties will be looking to make a jump somewhere else.

Family physicians can shift from primary care to emergency rooms, surgical assisting, hospitalists, cancer care, addictions, among many other types of specialty medicine.

They can also become entrepreneurs, educators, content creators, or leave medicine entirely.

We have a primary care situation that now has another reason to get worse.

We get the outcomes we design. I would have supported a carve out from this for any incorporated professionals we're desperately short of in Canada right now.

When income splitting was eliminated, we accelerated the slide down this slippery slope.

Let me emphasize that I - as in me personally - have a stable and well paying specialty. Paying more out of pocket in taxes isn't going to drive me out of being an Anesthesiologist.

I do think this will impact my colleagues in Family Medicine however, in very negative ways.
