WAY TOO LATE AND LONG APPRECIATION POST
Back in December I won my first serial and never made a proper post about it (sometimes it’s good to just enjoy the moment without a cell phone), but a big thank you is definitely needed.
In September I met Enrico, @DogXwisdom, who then I knew as a famous One Piece player but now know as a mentor and friend.
I told him that I had just started playing One Piece a few weeks prior, had no TCG experience, and wanted to win a serial before the year was over (Ace is my favorite character and I knew there may never be a serial of him again)
He told me I was crazy, that it was near impossible, and that we better get to work.
We spent hours testing, practicing, discussing theory and lines. By the end of the year we had reviewed so much Imu I could have told you what each elder smelled like.
I had my first regional just a month after starting the game playing Rayleigh and finished 61st. I was crushed, and Enrico told me (politely) that I was an idiot for being disappointed. He said it was a great result for a month of play, but he also knew it wasn’t the end goal. We got back to the lab.
Fast forward to December and I’m at the last regional in the ENTIRE WORLD. The last chance ever to win my Ace (playing Imu, ironic). It was Peru or never.
I lose my second round and people were quickly dropping to play the TC that started after round 3. A friend of mine even recommended I drop. He said it would be hard to win the rest in a row, better to play the TC without any of the top players.
Then I remembered something Enrico told me. “I see good players lose tournaments all the time because they lose a match and get tilted. The best ones just brush it off.”
I knew we had practiced every scenario, I knew what my deck wanted to do, I knew I was playing at a high level. I brushed it off.
I came for the Ace and I didn’t plan to leave until I had it.
A few hours and wins later and I finished 7th at the last regional of the year—my very first serial, and the last of the Ace serials to be given out in the whole world.
When I told Enrico, he called it poetic, and it felt that way.
I wanted to do the impossible and it was made possible with a lot of work, a lot of hours, and a great coach and friend!
Thank you, Enrico! Looking forward to you getting his brother this weekend at Lille. Then we get back to the lab.
Serial AND Manga in the same weekend!
Still doesn’t feel real!
Friday I went 7-1 at the CDMX treasure cup to win my second serial, and then Saturday when I thought my luck couldn’t get any better, I opened a Luffy manga in my participation pack.
Still trying to take it all in
