Can we stop with these insiders talking to team execs around the league about who’d they’d pick #1? Not saying Stenberg can’t or shouldn’t be 1 on teams lists but teams in the Atlantic div, or in the top 5 of the draft aren’t giving out that info truthfully let’s be serious here
Frank Seravalli: Re NHL draft: A number of teams that I've talked to, no fewer than three, have said if they had the #1 pick, Ivar Stenberg would be their guy; I still think it's probably more likely than not that the Leafs end up going with Gavin McKenna - FAN Pregame (5/7)
There’s clearly things Matthews wants to hear and see from the organization to believe there’s a way to win here. I think step 1 is finding a coach that aligns more with your top players and driving play. A close 2nd is finding more of those players to surround the top end talent
Couple quick thoughts on the Berube situation. Management needs as much info at to what went on this year in the room and behind the scenes. Why not use Berube for as much info as you can before making a decision on if you bring him back
I know there’s reports Berube will be back as the coach next year. I would bet against that. I think his days are numbered and you can’t afford to start the year to see how the first 10-15 games go, the division is too deep to risk losing points in a year you’re hoping to compete
Steve Sullivan is another source of info as Chayka knows him well from his days with the Coyotes. I just can’t see a world where Berube and Matthews come back together. And it’s a no brainer that you chose your franchise centre over a coach that hasn’t had positive results in T.O
KP taking a huge gamble with Chayka at the top of the chain of the Leafs front office. His job is on the line with this hire. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of tomorrow’s press conference, but Chayka has his work cut out for him, and will be challenged right away
Mark DeRosa faces several key lineup decisions, dependent on the result of tonight's game, and extending into tomorrow night in the bullpen.
