The LA zoo is built near a golf course and freeway interchange if you're just mad because i said a solution to make data centers non controversial then you're just another hypocritical imbecile that might as well say the Internet is bad as you push your ideology as a good thing
I can tell you’ve got absolutely no clue what goes on around you.
1) Animals sensitive to noise, like such at the Nashville Zoo, would face a decline of health. Stress and anxiety would increase, they become restless, eating would stop, and breeding issues would take place for leopards, tigers, birds etc. Bats can lose sonar, birds lose orientation etc.
2) Lights and vibrations can change behaviors, aggression increases, or avoiding normal social settings which leads to deterioration of quality of life.
Many of those animals are there to be preserved and protected. Even though we don’t hear many frequencies, most animals hear them and depend on them for survival, security and stability.
The threat we face as humans — in case you don’t read about them, if you can read at all:
1) Water usage, an average large data center uses 300,000 - 5 millions gallons in a single day. That’s a small town of 10,000-50,000 people worths of water. In 2023 alone, Virginia alone used 2 billion gallons. 85% of that water doesn’t come back.
2) Pollution, land and air. Waste water from data centers contain biocides, corrosion inhibitors, high mineral/salt contents, and sometimes heavy metals. This make water not suitable and also damages sewerage plants, and pollutes local bodies of water. Georgia, for an example, there were several residents who reported a cloudy/brown creek-like water with possible chemicals in it. Data centers also mainly use diesel generators, meaning it adds NOx to the air we breathe into our lungs. Putting you at direct risk of asthma, for an example.
3) Energy usage, in 2023 4–4.4% of U.S. electricity (~176 TWh) was used for data centers. This directly impacts the price of bills (electricity, gas etc)
Over time this will only get worse if it continues, numbers expect to reach trillions of water *already* in water stressed cities (Arizona, Texas, etc)
Another concern is infiltration of privacy and data, it’s simple really — more expanding data centers, more power, more ability and expectancy
I suggest you research, instead of just spewing bullshit thinking AI or data centers are good for us. What’s good for us is nature, wildlife, and our humanity.
