Roy Cooper has released his financial disclosure.

And wouldn’t you know it — the former governor still lists himself as Managing Member of Sunset Executive Building LLC, Sapony Creek Properties LLC, and Barrel Rider Properties LLC. That’s the family land operation in Nash County and Rocky Mount.

Same stretch of dirt his family leased to Strata Solar. Duke pays Strata. That lease runs into the 2030s. His family has been collecting on it for years.

Then as governor he sat on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline — the natural gas line that would’ve brought cheaper, reliable power to eastern North Carolina (it wouldn’t have been cheaper Roy was trying to sell it)— while his office worked a “solar deal” with the company renting his family’s land and a multimillion-dollar fund he wanted under his control.

Pipeline got killed. Your power bill went up. The family solar check kept coming.

He wants to lecture everybody about Duke Energy and “affordability.” His own paperwork shows the land LLCs and a pile of Vanguard index funds that own Duke anyway.

That’s not fighting for working families. That’s a family business that got real comfortable with the Governor’s Mansion. Imagine how comfortable he’d be as senator.

Not only has Cooper taken over $440,000 in campaign contributions from Duke Energy over the last 40 years.

Not only did Cooper employ a Duke Energy lobbyist on his staff in the Governor’s Mansion.

Not only did Cooper reject a natural gas pipeline which would have lowered energy costs.

But Cooper also appointed the commission that oversaw a 30% increase in energy prices for NC families.

All while his family has been making over $1 million a year on a sweetheart solar deal.

Cooper doesn’t care how much your family suffers, he is just in it for himself.
