The club and Jason Knight would like to update supporters following the end of the transfer window.

During the summer we together considered a variety of options which would be in the best interests of Jason and the club.

Terms on a contract extension could not be agreed and, now the season is underway, we want to put our energy into delivering positive results and are committed to moving forward together with Jason as First Team captain.

City Sporting Director James Ellis said: “Jason is a top quality player and we all share a desire to play at the highest level. Our hope remains that Jason achieves that ambition with Bristol City.

“Throughout our discussions this summer he has been collaborative and the absolute professional we all know he is.

“Jason is an important part of the club’s plans and he has been fully engaged in the changes we have made as a member of the players’ Senior Leadership Group. Jason is our captain and is fully committed to what we are trying to achieve.”

Jason said: “What’s happening at the club is really exciting and the changes being made are taking us in the right direction. We have built a new squad and I’m enjoying being part of that process.

“It’s an honour to captain Bristol City and I am committed to giving everything I can to make us successful.”

@michaelarcher7 @Tooneyram Salvesen, fraulo (not given much chance but a passenger in most games), forsyth… I’m not saying Johnston is any good but last year because of injury he didn’t play much, then when he came back he was left back and now he’s just played a couple of games this season

@michaelarcher7 @Tooneyram I don’t think he is the worst player in our squad but he’s playing terrible atm but so is everyone else, other than Zetterstrom. Doesn’t help Johnston when langas is next to him being half the player he used to be, he’s getting bullied every game so far

@Tooneyram I agree with you he’s been poor but I think forsyth would really struggle against their wingers and Taylor would offer much going forward but is a lot better defensively

@aghjoinery_paul I agree but I’ve seen comments directed towards Clowse and Eustace, which is uncalled for in my opinion. I agree that this squad isn’t ready but that’s more down to the failed takeover than anything else and we aren’t going to rush into buying dodgy squad players

Squad obviously looks weak but need to remember what we have injured atm. Definitely need some players no doubt but I don’t think it’s as dramatic once you add Clarke, fully fit Brewster, Murkin and Agyemang, still need more competition in certain positions #dcfc

@thederbydigest Yeah agreed, we deffo need players but I think some of the meltdowns have been abit over the top is all I’m saying
