It was great to have PAL Track and Field compete on our campus today! It was great to get all these middle schoolers on our track, and congrats to all the athletes who competed!
If your athletes are growing and you’re not, eventually they outgrow you.
Every PR, every setback, every lesson exposes the coach too.
What you see.
What you miss.
Your patience.
Your teaching.
Your ego.
Most people think coaching is only about developing athletes.
The truth is, the same athletes you’re trying to build are building you too.
The hardest transition of my coaching career was going from being a successful high school and collegiate athlete to being a coach.
As an athlete, I knew how to push, compete, and respond when things got hard. What I had to learn as a coach was that not every kid’s path is going to look like mine did.
That humbled me.
Coaching is not about giving kids what worked for me. It is about learning what each kid needs from me.

Track & field is one of the last places in a school where the football captain, the valedictorian, the band kid, the wrestler, and the quiet kid who never thought he belonged can all wear the same jersey.
Track does not care what a kid’s last name is, how much money he has, what side of town he lives on, or how popular he is. Out here, none of that matters. Somewhere between the workouts, the bus rides, and the meets, kids who might never have spoken to each other start to build real respect.
It is hard not to respect somebody when you have seen what they are willing to push through and how much they are willing to give.
That is a big reason track & field will always mean more to me than just times, marks, and points.
Really happy with @RCHS_DA_TF ‘s opening meet today! A ton of PRs, 4 meet records across 3 athletes, and a ton of promise for things to come! Even better is the amount of things to work on to get better. Excited for where this team is going #BeBetterThanYesterday

I must be feeling sentimental tonight but as the sun sets on the final day of the 24-25 school year, I want to express my gratitude to all my students and athletes, especially the seniors moving on to do great things. You make my job not a job, but a lifestyle I love. Thank you
