The pastorate will crush any man who isn't anchored in and regularly refreshed by the truth of the Gospel. I don't care how gifted a speaker or leader he is, how intellectually astute or go-getterish. He will not be able to shepherd the flock apart from Gospel-thick thinking and living.
- B.A. Purtle
You are not the author of your life; God is. Every aspect of it—every location, situation, relationship, triumph, defeat, sunny day, and dark night—was written into his sovereign book before you took your first breath. Your story has been written by the wise, powerful, and gracious hand of the King of kings.
There is no one, no matter how far down on the human scale they may be, that cannot be blessed if they will receive the kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ. No one. #DallasWillard#TheScandalOfTheKingdom
At the core of a Christian ethic is love, even for our enemies. Not celebrating their views, not affirming all their positions, but you must love.
You cannot practice Christian morality and use the Enemy’s weapons of slander and mockery. This is not soft, it’s cruciform.
This pandemic of pastoral disqualifications should probably compel more pastors to give up platform-building “for the gospel” and embrace a kind of evangelical anonymity instead.
Love and be known by the Lord…your wife…kids…church…close friends.
And let that be enough.
The secret to freedom from enslaving patterns of sin is worship. You need worship. You need great worship. You need weeping worship. You need glorious worship. You need to sense God’s greatness and to be moved by it — moved by who God is and what He has done for you.
