@atrupar Doubling down on how bad at basic math he and the entire administration isn't a good look. These morons don't understand middle school math and expect us to believe they know how to run a country?

@howie_hua@MikeFlynn55 Divide each by 2. My new problem is 44 x 4 x 2 x 2.
44 x 4 = 176 (40 x 4) + (4 x 4)
2 x 2 = 4
176 x 4 = 704
But I guess I ended up using an 8 when multiplying 70 x 4. Hope it still counts.
@howie_hua@pwharris I broke 15 into 10 and 5.
10 x 36 = 360 (Full circle)
5 x 36 = 180 (Half circle)
From watching the Olympics, I know a 1.5 rotation is called a 540, and 360 + 180 = 540
@howie_hua I started at 73.
Subtracted 3 to get 70.
Subtracted 30 to get 40.
Then subtracted 4 to get 36.
Breaking the 37 into more manageable numbers makes the subtraction easier for me.
@howie_hua@mminas8 I broke the 27 into 25 + 2. Seeing the 25 made me think of money.
8 X 25 = 8 quarters = $2.00
8 X 2 = 16 pennies = $0.16
$2.00 + $0.16 = $2.16
8 x 27 = 216
@howie_hua Flip the problem - What is 50% of 30?
Half of a number is easier for me. Half of 30 is 15.
I used the model on the right, but then double checked with the original one on the left.
@howie_hua 2 ways.
1st - I was born in 1974, so they are 2 years younger than me. I'm 51, they are or will be 49.
2nd - On a number line. 2025 - 50 is 1975. I subtracted 1 too many. Add the -1 back and I also get 49.
(number line not to scale)
@howie_hua I added all the tens first to get 40. I was left with 3+5+7+9.
3+7= 10 (add that to my 10's group to now have 50)
5+9= 14 (another ten to get 60)
60 + 4 = 64
@howie_hua Traveling 6 miles in 5 min. means you will go 36 miles in 30 min.
Traveling 7 miles in 6 min. means you will go 35 miles in 30 min.
6 miles in 5 minutes is just a bit faster.
@howie_hua First thought - it is just less than 20 if I didn't need to be exact.
Second thought - reverse the numbers - 40% of 45.
10% of 45 is 4.5. I need four of those.
4.5 + 4.5 + 4.5 + 4.5 = 18.
(Solved this as 9 + 9 or (4x4) + 2)
Step into a fresh new era! ✨
The NEW Brainingcamp interface is now more intuitive, accessible, and classroom-ready than ever! Now available in all 18 manipulatives.
@howie_hua Using your numbers, and estimating my height in cm. (I'm between 6' 4" and 6' 5" - but where exactly, I'm not sure and don't really care.)
I'm about 196 cm. So I would have about $280. All the little difference in exact height might add or remove a dollar, but I'll take it!
