I wanted to give a small legal analysis from a different angle than my fellow attorneys @slbsn and @AndrewDettmer who both did a phenomenal job explaining what charges the Premier League have brought.

I've been hearing a lot of people saying that Manchester City's problem is now that the allegations in CAS are not time-barred and CAS did not rule on the merits of the case, so the Premier League is going to be able to argue the merits of the case, in which Manchester City will lose. This is factually incorrect. CAS did rule for Manchester City on the merits of the allegations in the leaked emails in 1 of the 2 sponsorships. MCFC was accused of disgusting equity funding through the sponsorships of Eitsalat and Etihad.

1) CAS ruled anything in 2012-2013 is time-barred, but nothing in 2014 and beyond was time-barred.

2) CAS ruled the allegations regarding Eitsalat are time-barred.

3) CAS ruled on the merits regarding Etihad allegations, as they were not time-barred. CAS ruled in favor of Manchester City, stating that UEFA's only real evidence were the leaked emails and Etihad making two separate payments to MCFC instead of one.

So, in conclusion, the claim that City won on a "technicality" or "only because it was time-barred" is untrue. That was only struck down for certain years and for Etisalat. As for the Etihad sponsorship, CAS ruled that UEFA brought little evidence to support this claim, and ruled for City. We don't know what additional evidence the Premier League has in compared to UEFA or if there are completely different allegations, but I think it's important to make the record clear that City did beat UEFA on the merits for a decent portion of the CAS ruling.
