Very good question I saw on twitter today and I can’t remember who posted it… It simply asked why a man worth £730m would want a job that pays £164k a year. What is Rishi Sunak’s motivation to be PM?
At the time of writing it seems very likely that Rishi Sunak will become prime minister today. Some thoughts on what we might expect from him seem appropriate. A thread…..
Sky News reporter Mark Stone, who is on the flight with Boris Johnson back from the Dominican Republic to Gatwick, said that Johnson was booed by passengers as he boarded.
As London mayor, Johnson didn't cut his holiday short when rioting erupted in 2011. As prime minister, Johnson didn't cut his holiday short when the Taliban retook Kabul in 2021. But a sniff of a chance of replacing Truss, and he's on the first jet back from the Caribbean.
Liz Truss is literally not able to speak. She just sits there, there was a chance for her to rise. She sat in stunned silence. It's as if they've told her she's not to speak.
The prime minister had an audience with the King at Buckingham Palace, who could be heard saying 'dear, oh dear' as he met her.

@Theranello@AlisonBow @BeckettUnite Take into account their expenses plus yearly wage £2.37 is a minute percentage of their hourly income. It’s a disgrace
@Theranello@AlisonBow @BeckettUnite 1/2: Me and staff at work have “subsidised” food. Costs us only around 1/3 less than customers pay whilst we’re on NMW and pull 12 hour shifts. As my company can’t afford to pay NLW (not like it’d help that much anyway) we spend <2/3 of an hourly wage on a subsidised meal.
