Traveling waves spatiotemporally organize brain-wide activity in relation to arousal. Also an attempt at a basic framework for resting-state fMRI. https://t.co/YpPxd5Gq0c
Amazing paper. All the good stuff: brain dynamics, state trajectories, embedding, links to arousal, tracking full dynamic state with a single measurement.

Please apply! There are a lot of theory/computation people at Allen that you can work with! We work on projects at the interface of Machine Learning, Statistical Physics, and Neuroscience using one-of-a-kind datasets and contributing to design theory-driven experiments.
Neuroscience has a treasure trove of data waiting to be explored.
Apply by February 1, 2024 for the Shanahan Foundation Fellowship at the Interface of Data & Neuroscience.

Spiraling waves are everywhere in cortex. They mirror each other across long distances and hemispheres. And they are coordinated with subcortical spiking.
The brain is telling us how it works. https://t.co/F2Dlx0FUXF
@Tamara_Jedidja @OHBM Thanks for following up! Short answer..BOLD and arousal fluctuate on same timescales. As I interpret it, modulation implies scale separation (eg arousal modulation of heart/resp. rate). Happy to discuss further!

The only thing I love more than neuroscience is... teaching neuroscience.
Here's a video series of my undergrad “Intro to Neuro” class. Adding new topics regularly. Check them out!

Recent PhD grads, you have 2 weeks to apply for the Shanahan Foundation Fellowship! Neuroscience experience not required. https://t.co/RpSu34RFxp
🧠 We’re now accepting applications for the 2023 Shanahan Foundation Fellowship at the Interface of Data & Neuroscience. The fellowship offers PhDs from a diverse range of fields mentorship & support to pursue research interests w/ our data [Apply Here] 🔗 https://t.co/vBgJhr8RYx
"Metabolic Spikes" is a modelling study on the origins of "spontaneous" activity in neural systems. That sort of baseline activity is ubiquitous! As a field, we accept it's there & include it in models, but why do neurons do that? Fire in the absence of input? Seems kinda weird.
This Review, published in @NatureRevEndo, discusses the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the association between stress and metabolic disease, and evaluates the epidemiological evidence for the influence of stress on metabolic disease. https://t.co/Uey7c7wjvd
