@cheeseheadtv Max comp would be Musgrave & 7th for a 6th. Maybe some team thinks they can use him as an oversized WR? Has little YAC or blocking value.
@nfldraftscout The way I look at it is these 5 teams will be having conversations within their FO:
1. Browns (duh)
2. Jets (FO & HC hotseat)
3. Cardinals (Beck the future?)
4. Cowboys (Daks contract and age 33)
5. Texans (Stroud contract)
Prediction: Jets with Houston as dark horse
@JacobMorley While I’m not jazzed about him being the cover over several more deserving players, I get it from a business perspective. Chicago is an extremely large market and the hype for the Bears (whether deserved or not) has not been higher since the Urlacher days. All about the money
@BillHuberNFL Alec Pierce’s contract was always the benchmark. Anything over 30+ would have been an overpay, anything under 26 mill would have been good value. Lot of big money WR contracts coming up, expect his 27.5 APY to rank around 20-25th among WRs by end of next FA. Currently 15th
Smart business is getting contracts done early. If you know a guy is part of your long term plans then extend him. Pay him before you have to worry about others doing the same on the open market. Competition drives up the price and gives up leverage. See Jerry Jones
@AndrewBrandt Are agents more inclined to include these bonuses into their client’s contracts to prop up reported value? How would players respond if they were held out from games for injury precautions and missed these bonuses?
Also, folks should wait to see the actual numbers/cap hits. But as Andy says here, no-brianer deal for the Packers. You pay a guy for what you expect him to do, not what he's done.
@AndyHermanNFL Watson’s skillset is rare in today’s NFL, a tall deep threat with 4.3 speed that is also highly efficient in run blocking. Yes he’s had his injury issues in the past but Packers are banking on his future. He would easily get 30 mill APY on the open market from WR desperate teams
@Peter_Bukowski@AaronNagler Packers always prioritize future projected production over past performance in extensions. Watson is young and has the skill set to succeed in MLF’s offense. Just needs to stay healthy
@StevenCheah The Packers are hoping Watson’s healthiest days are ahead of him. After the Pierce extension, Watson hitting 26-28 million range was inevitable. Packers extend their young guys based off future performance projection rather than past production
The packers have a solid window for the 2026 & 2027 season. Once Kraft & Wyatt are locked up their only starters that will be pending FAs in 2026 are Nixon, Valentine, & McDuffie + cap casualties. With 11 potential picks in the NFL draft the 2028 Packers will look a lot different
