🚨 “Thai Khom” Script — What’s Really Behind the Name?
Lately, Thai official publications and digital standards have been using the term “Thai Khom” more and more.
At first it sounds like normal heritage work. But look
closer and you’ll see a quiet rewriting of history.
In old Sukhothai and Ayutthaya records, “Khom” simply meant the Khmer people and their empire. The word “Khamen” (modern Thai for Cambodian) came much later. Historians agree: Khom = Khmer.
“Akson Khom” literally means Khmer script. Thailand adapted Old Khmer script twice — first for everyday use (the Sukhothai script), then again for sacred Pali texts, Buddhist scriptures, and yantra tattoos.
Even the royal Thai language (Rachasap) carries deep Khmer roots. The Khmer Angkor Empire was the superpower of the region, and rising Thai kingdoms naturally learned from it — writing systems, court traditions, and statecraft included.
Today, some narratives try to turn “Khom” into a mysterious vanished race completely separate from modern Cambodians. Mainstream historians reject this. The evidence shows a clear, unbroken line from Angkor to the Cambodian people today.
Thai scribes did incredible work preserving thousands of ancient manuscripts. That achievement deserves respect. But real preservation requires honesty.
Acknowledging that Thai writing has Khmer roots doesn’t diminish Thailand. It simply tells the truth about how deeply connected these two neighbors have always been.
History is shared. Cross-pollination built Southeast Asia.
What do you think — should we tell the full story, or keep sanitizing it?

Even Thai maps place Tamone Thom in Cambodia
Tamone Thom Temple is clearly located within Cambodian territory, noted Ith Sotha, an official at the State Secretariat of Border Affairs.
Sotha pointed out that all maps show the temple as being in Cambodia, whether the 1:200,000 scale map and demarcation records produced by the Indochina-Siam Commission in 1908 and 1919, or even Thailand’s unilaterally drawn 1:50,000 scale L7017 map.
Aside from the cheesy Ministry of Tourism video and my sarcasm, I do think Cambodia is mostly safe for tourists. Watch for the odd pickpocket, and don’t wander the streets drunk off your ass at 3am looking for trouble. I’ve never felt unsafe here, and I’ve been here a long time.

Villages destroyed, homes looted, and civilians under fire. The use of heavy weaponry and military aggression has stripped Cambodians of their dignity and safety on their own soil. Living in constant fear is not a life this is a grave human rights crisis. #Thailand#ThailandCambodia
🔥 Just look at the country that claims to have the BEST and MOST education in the region… 🇹🇭
Their citizens burned down a Thai-owned house because they thought it belonged to Cambodia!
Look at that “superior education” in action.
Are Thai people really as educated as they claim… or are they just buying degrees and certificates with money? 💰📜
Be honest with me 👇
Do YOU believe Thais are educated like they say they are?
YES or NO?

Cambodia demands halt to Thai unilateral border demarcation in Chouk Chey
Cambodia has lodged another formal protest against Thailand’s continued violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, this time in response to allegations that Thai officials and civilians carried out land surveying activities and installed boundary markers in Chouk Chey village of Banteay Meanchey province, an area Phnom Penh says remains subject to bilateral border demarcation agreements.

While Thai soldiers 🇹🇭 stand guard protecting Thai farmers ploughing on Khmer land 🇰🇭 at Succay Village, Banteay Meanchey Province…
Since May 2026, the same Thai soldiers have been detaining Khmer citizens for simply plowing their own fields in Sela Khmer village, Banteay Meanchey Province.
But now when Thai farmers plough on Khmer land, suddenly everything is quiet?
Where is the justice?
Where is the international community?
Where are the same rules they applied to Khmer farmers?
This is not border protection. This is clear land theft.
Khmer land belongs to Khmer people. 🇰🇭
