A tornado in Atlantic Beach, an evening commute amid heavy rain and concertgoers searching for safe shelter — all results of an early evening rainstorm Thursday across Long Island.
Nassau was under a state of emergency due to the storm and had mobilized its emergency operation center, said County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
The tornado touched down at the Sun & Surf Beach Club in Atlantic Beach, leaving one person with minor injuries and major damage to at least 30 cabanas.

You can see the low responsible for the ongoing showers spinning offshore as the sun rises today. The rain from this system will taper off west to east as the day continues, though the chance of storms resumes tomorrow.
We can confirm that a waterspout came onshore as a tornado in the west end of Atlantic Beach last evening.
An NWS survey team will investigate and provide more information on the tornado and cause of any additional damage paths later today.
