Manchester United were offered the opportunity to sign Youri Tielemans from Monaco towards the end of 2018-19. The then-21-year-old waited to see if United would make a proper approach, but chose to return to Leicester City - where he'd spent half the season on loan - after realising he would've been backup to Paul Pogba ❌

With a year left on his deal at Leicester, the Belgian was discussed again by figures at United in the summer of 2022... but Erik ten Hag preferred 'a different blend' - sanctioning the free transfer of Christian Eriksen and pushing strongly for Frenkie de Jong, before United signed Casemiro for an initial £60m ❌

A third opportunity arose in 2023 when Tielemans was a free agent, but despite a long-term appreciation for the player, United never considered him and signed Mason Mount instead ❌

Feels like this one has been a long time coming and it's great to see the stars have finally aligned this summer 🤩🇧🇪
