@misterminsoo Robby is a titan. I screened Dead Man at my college last month and was reminded of all the amazing films he did. IMO, all the more impressive that he worked with CAN.
The wonderful band Feeling Figures played in Olympia a few days ago and now you can get a song-length peek into the fun. The all-ages crowd brought it too. LP soon on @K_recs & @perennialdeath is a must. https://t.co/Oijs15u2Gk
@soft_abuse Didn't click in a big way immediately for me either. This "genre" isn't usually my thing, so it was surprising when it snuck up on me. Nothing wrong with getting stuff whenever it hits us naturally (except when you have to pay stupid prices to grip).
@angelamtate Good way of describing it @angelamtate Navigating various platforms and encountering new challenges/situations throws many for a loop, as it does for many older, returning students.
Digital natives? Yesterday I explained to an under 20yo student that they didn't need to retype their paper to get it from their MacBook to our lab computer. They'd been retyping papers to print for the last quarter and a half. π
Also, this wasn't some Mac PC compatibly challenge. Student typed it up in Word online. We also have a system for printing from laptops. And this is a student who works hard in the library everyday and has a rapport with me and others.
Incredible @therealunwound show last night in Seattle. They played so many favs and we're in top form. Which is especially amazing with a 22 year gap. Go see them!
@jen_powers43 I see you like Bergman. YES! Many great recs already, but I'll also add Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Also Phoenix by Petzold. Both amazing. Neither exactly what you first describe, but you'll dig.
@jen_powers43 Ozu developed and mastered a technique of cutting to landscapes and objects right at the emotional climax of a scene. Typically his films are more INT shots than EXT, so not quite what you're looking for. But his still, long shots and calm pacing may be your thing.
@Marcissist The trend towards adjunct, contingent labor IS terrible. BUT academia is also frequently a site of massive organized labor, with many protections, benefits, and progressive policies for the workers. -signed an academic worker
