The Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID) has intercepted a large consignment of suspected Indian hemp and arrested a 38-year-old welder, Solomon Tettey, at Krobo-Odumase in the Eastern Region.

Police say officers acted on intelligence and tracked a Hyundai Rhino truck carrying sacks of the suspected narcotics to a secluded area near Atua Government Hospital, where the cargo was being transferred into another truck.

The suspects fled into nearby bushes after spotting the police, abandoning the vehicles and the consignment.

According to police, Solomon Tettey later approached officers, claimed ownership of the trucks and cargo, and offered GH¢100,000 to let him go. The cash was retrieved as evidence, and the suspect was immediately arrested with support from the Regional CTU team.

Police also retrieved 80 sacks containing 6,400 slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, with an estimated street value of GH¢3.8 million.
