What Director Lakshmipriya Devi said on the world stage of the BAFTA in 2026, during her historic win for Boong, her debut Manipuri feature film, truly echoed the voices of the masses and innocent citizens of our region.

Her description of Manipur as deeply ignored and underrepresented within India, my homeland, resonated with the lived realities of many discontented yet hopeful people like us. When she introduced the child actors as a testimony to the suffering of internally displaced children, it was a moment that went beyond cinema, it became a moral appeal for justice. In that powerful instant, she represented every suffering citizen of the state, transcending communal or ethnocentric narratives.

She emerged with clarity and courage, speaking the right words at the right time, on the right platform. What many of us have struggled to articulate for years, she expressed before the world with dignity and conviction.

My heartfelt thanks to her and the entire team of Boong for this remarkable achievement. I extend my personal gratitude to her, she has done what many of us could not accomplish despite years of effort. I wish her continued strength and success in all her future endeavours.

Nestled in the heart of Manipur, Koirengei Airfield stands as a poignant testament to the valor & sacrifices of World War II, particularly during the pivotal Battle of Imphal-Kohima in 1944.

This historic runway served as a vital artery for Allied supplies, enabling airdrops that thwarted Japanese advances and safeguarded India's sovereignty. Amidst relentless bombings, starvation, and displacement, the resilient Manipuri people played an indispensable role in what is hailed as Britain's greatest battle, embodying unwavering courage and humanity.

In the present day, encroachments by defense establishments risk obliterating this invaluable heritage, reducing this revered soil to ordinary development. Such amnesia must be confronted. By designating Koirengei as a World Heritage site, we can cultivate tourism, establish memorials and research hubs, and promote international harmony, thereby honoring the fallen heroes & our forefathers' enduring legacy.

We also extend our gratitude to Shri N Biren Singh for tirelessly highlighting this urgent need since 2017, including his recent poignant appeal to Hon'ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh. The poppy fields continue to emerge in the hill districts of Manipur despite the measures being undertaken by the security forces to curb their cultivation.

These plantations do not cater to any small-time local business but are tied to an international supply chain that reaches all corners of the world.

The powerful drug cartels remain hell-bent on shifting the Golden Triangle to the Indian state of Manipur by running a parallel economy of drugs worth around Rs 60,000 crore, which far exceeds the annual budget for the state.

The poppy fields are the root cause of the conflict in Manipur, as the violence erupted in reaction to the intensive poppy destruction drives carried out by Shri N. Biren Singh's government.

In this footage, the Indian paramilitary forces express their disbelief and amazement at finding the endless fields of poppy despite the poppy destruction they have been carrying out. The security personnel came across a massive poppy field after destroying five similar poppy fields.

They are heard saying, "This is why the attacks, the targeting, and the shooting at the Meiteis will continue, as these opium fields will replenish the bombs and guns of the militants."

The Indian government must address this issue with the utmost seriousness and make committed efforts to tackle this grave threat to the youths of Manipur and the nation.

Some places hold history; others carry it. Koirengei Airfield is one such place. Started operating in 1942 amidst the chaos of World War II, it became a lifeline during the Battle of Imphal and a gateway to survival for thousands fleeing the Japanese invasion of Burma. When bodies failed and feet could no longer move, ordinary Manipuri villagers carried refugees on their backs, shared their food, and turned compassion into resistance against despair. Koirengei later witnessed Manipur’s journey into democracy and nationhood.

Recognising the immense historical and human value of this site, former Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri @NBirenSingh , has raised the issue with the Central leadership, urging that Koirengei Airfield be preserved as a Heritage & Memorial Landscape for future generations. To preserve this airfield is to protect stories of courage, kindness and collective memory that belong not only to Manipur, but to India and the world.

“It is learnt that today (Jan 21) evening at around 1830 hrs. one Meitei Mayanglambam (tribal name Ginminthang) h/o Chingnu Haokip was kidnapped by armed miscreants (suspected to be UKNA) from Tuibong, CCpur.

The kidnappers took both husband and wife towards Natjang (PS-Henglep, Distt-CCpur) where he was suspected to be eliminated by the kidnappers.

It is further gathered that, Mrs Chiinu Haokip took prior consent from KNO & Tuibong DHQ authorities to let her husband visit her for a few days as her husband was working in Nepal and had come on leave. She was given permission by the concerned authorities.

The husband hails from Kakching Khunou”.

The time for equivocation is over. Indian State agencies must immediately and forcefully act against terrorist and separatist elements that continue to operate openly in Manipur. Decades of appeasement, restraint, and so-called “confidence-building” measures have utterly failed. The carrot policy stands fully exhausted. What remains is the absolute necessity of the stick - applied swiftly, decisively, and without compromise.

Any further inaction will no longer be interpreted as caution or complexity. It will be read as deliberate acquiescence. If these organised narco-terrorist groups are not dismantled and neutralised forthwith, the unavoidable conclusion will be that the Government of India has chosen to compromise with forces that fund themselves through drugs, violence, and ethnic terror while actively undermining national sovereignty.

Let it be stated without ambiguity: the continued existence of armed terrorist networks is not a failure of intelligence but a failure of political will. The selective blindness of the State, its tolerance of armed illegality, and its refusal to enforce the rule of law amount to nothing less than institutional complicity. Such conduct makes the Indian State morally and constitutionally culpable for every act of terror that follows.

History does not absolve governments that negotiate with narco-terrorism under the guise of peace. It indicts them. If the Indian State continues to shield, indulge, or ignore these groups, it will stand exposed, not as a neutral arbiter, but as an enabler of organised terror against its own citizens in Manipur.

Manipur must be the Ground Zero for India’s “Detect, Delete, Deport” policy.

Unchecked illegal infiltration from Myanmar and Bangladesh has fuelled ethnic tension, poppy cultivation, deforestation, narco-terrorism, and a dangerous demographic imbalance. For years, Manipur has borne the consequences of delayed decisions, turning a national security issue into an existential crisis for indigenous communities.

Former CM @NBirenSingh consistently warned the Centre and acted on the ground.
From scrapping the Free Movement Regime demands, launching identification and biometric drives, evicting illegal settlements from protected forests, to the War on Drugs and exposing large-scale infiltration, his government documented what others ignored.
