🌊1/Seaweed forests worldwide are changing rapidly due to climate change. Western Australia’s forests are dramatic examples of this, but what about the biodiversity hotspot on the south coast? Our latest historical ecology research finds out... 🧵

Have you ever heard of a hydrophone, an underwater device that detects and records sea sounds?
Divers retrieve the research device to asses possible noise pollution around Anavyssos, Greece.

#DidYouKnow that some giant kelp can grow as long as 50 metres? That’s almost as long as the leaning tower of Pisa! 😲
This display in #HintzeHall shows the glorious forms of seaweed around the Pembrokeshire and Devon coastlines 👇
A massive congratulations to Nima Sarikhani who has won our Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award! 👏
Nima’s dreamy image captures the moment a polar bear drifts off to sleep on a bed made of ice against stunning pink and blue sky. ❄️
@OdedRechavi Did not read all the comments, but Frontiers does add the list of reviewers so this gives credits to their comments/feedback. However, no I agree with one comment written early on ..it will incentivize a different "shady" behaviour in the peer-reviewing process
Thanks to the @icymare crew for this incredible week full of interesting talks, posters and human beings! And thanks once again to @Pyro_Science for sponsoring our project! #ICYMARE2023
Many thanks again to our sponsor @Pyro_Science for this amazing opportunity! Looking forward to attending the #ICYMARE2023@icymare and presenting the project!
Like rainforests, kelp forests act as the ocean's "lungs", absorbing CO₂ and releasing oxygen. However, they're under threat from overfishing, pollution, and changing ocean temperatures.
This UNEP report examines their status and provides restoration guidance.
Seaweed forests fix large amounts of carbon. Much debate exists however on whether some of that carbon ends up sequestered, and sequestration can lead to tangible climate change mitigation. We synthesized the literature to figure this out... 🧵https://t.co/I5MvGPtKkm
