In 2022, the SAA’s Student Affairs (SAC) organized the Student Affairs Lecture Series in Archaeology (SALSA) to highlight the research of current student members of the SAA. We are excited to announce that we are continuing this series in 2023 with a new slate of speakers! 1/6

Students at any stage of their career - baccalaureate, Master's, or doctoral - may apply to be part of this next year of speakers! Each speaker will be paid a $150 honorarium for their time and effort. We accept paper proposals in English and Spanish currently, (2/4)

Please join us for another SALSA this Friday, January 19th at 8pm Eastern, when we welcome Sophia Emmons for her talk, "Analyzing Stone Fish Net Sinkers in the North Coast of Peru: Inquiring Their Functional and Symbolic Aspects." (1/7)

By analyzing the similarities and differences of the fishnet sinkers, one can infer the types of fishing nets used by maritime communities and their social implications. Fishnet sinkers found in ceremonial context had evidence of being intentionally broken in half, (6/7)

I also seek to create a GIS-based predictive model to aid in locating preserved Pleistocene-aged sites along the southern Alaskan coast by testing the applicability of an existing methodology applied successfully in British Columbia. 6/7
