The most expensive part of a hospital bill may never touch the hospital at all.

A patient admitted for care has no way of knowing whether the price on a medical consumable reflects its actual cost or a markup fixed long before it ever reached the ward. That gap in information is, at its core, a public health issue.

A survey of hospital consumables in Maharashtra found an IV infusion set with a trade price of ₹11.05 carrying a printed MRP of ₹325 ; a markup of 2,841%. A syringe procured at ₹6.75 carried an MRP of ₹57.20. A catheter procured at ₹29.41 carried an MRP of ₹310.

These are not elective purchases. Patients cannot compare prices, seek alternatives, or question a number printed on a box while receiving care and the MRP itself is often fixed upstream by manufacturers and distributors, disconnected from the trade price by a wide, unexplained margin. The result is a system where the party bearing the cost has the least information to evaluate it.

The regulatory gap is structural: scheduled medicines are capped under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. Most medical devices and consumables are not leaving both the pricing and the information around it almost entirely unmonitored.

A review of these findings and clear guidelines on the permissible gap between trade procurement price and declared MRP have been recommended to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the NPPA ; a step toward closing not just a pricing gap, but the information gap patients are left to bear alone.

🔥 India has #coal. Then why are 59 power plants running critically short of it?

Because having coal and having coal where you need it, when you need it are two different things.

As of Sept 9, 59 coal-fired power plants had critically low stocks. Yet Coal India reportedly had ~76 million tonnes sitting at mine pitheads.

So where’s the problem?

👉 LOGISTICS.

Think of the chain:

Coal mine → loading → railway rake → power plant → electricity

India’s power demand has remained extremely high. Thermal plants are burning coal faster, while monsoon conditions can disrupt mining and transportation.

The result?

Coal may be available at the mine, but not enough is reaching some power plants quickly enough.

And there’s another problem:

☀️ Solar drops after sunset
💧 Hydro flexibility can be constrained
❄️ Evening AC demand remains high
🔥 Coal plants must fill the gap

That means coal inventories can fall rapidly.

Important: “critical stock” does NOT mean 59 plants are shutting down. Coal keeps arriving every day. It is essentially an inventory warning sign.

The bigger lesson:

Energy security isn’t just about how much coal India produces.

It is about whether we can produce, transport and deliver the right quantity to the right power plant at exactly the right time.

Sometimes the problem isn’t scarcity.

It’s the last mile.

मनुस्मृति में महिलाओं को सिर्फ दोयम दर्जे का या पुरुष पर निर्भर रहने के लिए ही नहीं कहा गया है - बल्कि तमाम और वाहियात घटिया बातें कहीं हैं -सुनकर खून खौल जाए 👇

▪️मनुस्मृति के पांचवें अध्याय के 148वें श्लोक में कहा गया है कि "एक स्त्री को हमेशा अपने पिता के संरक्षण में रहना चाहिए, विवाह पश्चात पति द्वारा उसका संरक्षण होना चाहिए, पति की मृत्यु के बाद उसे अपने बच्चों की दया पर निर्भर रहना चाहिए. लेकिन किसी भी स्थिति में एक महिला स्वतंत्र नहीं रह सकती"

यानी स्त्री के पास अपने बारे में भी निर्णय लेने के अधिकार नहीं है

▪️मनुस्मृति में महिलाओं को शिक्षा प्राप्त करने का अधिकार नहीं है. सिर्फ वे महिलाएं ही वेदों का अध्ययन कर सकती हैं, जिनका यज्ञोपवीत संस्कार होता है. यानी उच्च वर्ण की कुछ महिलाओं को छोड़कर किसी को कोई शिक्षा लेना का अधिकार नहीं है

▪️मनुस्मृति के 15वें नियम में कहा गया है कि 'महिलाओं का चंचल मन और स्वाभाविक हृदयहीनता की वजह से अपने पति के प्रति धोखेबाज हो सकती हैं. ऐसे में उन्हें निगरानी में रखना चाहिए

▪️मनुस्मृति के दूसरे अध्याय में कहा गया है कि 'पुरुषों को उत्तेजित करना और उनको बहकाना महिलाओं का स्वभाव है. ऐसे में समझदार लोगों को महिलाओं के आसपास संभलकर रहना चाहिए. किसी भी पुरूष को अपनी मां, बहन या बेटी के साथ भी एकांत में नहीं रहना चाहिए, वर्ना स्त्रियों की वजह से पुरूष का धर्म भ्रष्ट हो सकता है

▪️मनुस्मृति में कहा गया है कि राजा धन और स्त्रियों की रक्षा करता है. मगर विपत्ति में धन या स्त्रियों के प्रयोग से भी राज्य को सुरक्षित रख सकता है. यानी स्त्रियों का उपयोग वस्तु की तरह किया जा सकता है

▪️मनुस्मृति में कहा गया है कि महिला को अपने माता-पिता या पति की संपत्ति पर प्रत्यक्ष अधिकार नहीं है. अगर वह धन अर्जित करती है तो वो धन उसके पति या पुत्रों को जाएगा. यदि स्त्री के भाई हैं, तो उसे माता-पिता की संपत्ति में हिस्सा नहीं मिलेगा

▪️मनुस्मृति के तीसरे अध्याय में मनु ने महिलाओं की तुलना कुत्ते और सुअर से की है. कहा है कि “जब ब्राह्मण भोजन करें तब उन्हें किसी सुअर, मुर्गे, कुत्ते या किन्नर या ऐसी महिला जो रजस्वला (पीरियड्स) में हो, उसको देखना भी नहीं चाहिए”

तीसरे अध्याय में ही कहा गया है कि उस महिला से विवाह न किया जाए, जिसके बाल और आंखें लाल हो. या एक ऐसी महिला जो नीची जाति की हो

▪️मनुस्मृति के ग्यारहवें श्लोक में कहा गया है कि जिस स्त्री के भाई न हो या जिसके पिता को कोई न जानता हो यानी वो लड़की किसकी है ये किसी को न मालूम हो तो उस स्त्री से विवाह करने वाला आदमी मूर्ख होता है. जबकि बिना बाप वाले पुत्र से विवाह करने में कोई दिक्कत नही है

आख़िर कौन हैं वो महिलायें जिनका खून नहीं खौलता यह सब सुनकर?

मनुस्मृति जिसकी घटिया बातों से यह कहकर ध्यान भटकाने की कोशिश है कि बाक़ी धर्मों की बात नहीं हो रही - ऐसे लोग तो राजा राममोहन रॉय को सती प्रथा ख़त्म करते वक़्त कहते बाक़ी धर्मों की कुरीतियाँ ख़त्म कीजिए. ये कैसी बचकानी बेहूदी और महिला विरोधी बात है
