November is Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Did you know domestic violence is a vastly underreported crime. Victims are often embarrassed, or they blame themselves, or they feel trapped by cultural or economic barriers.
The Edmonton Police Service takes domestic violence seriously. We have collaborative partnerships with shelters and social agencies to help and support victims. We also encourage perpetrators to seek assistance to address the root causes of their violent behaviour to promote domestic harmony. Domestic violence can affect anyone, from any identifiable group. That’s why it takes an entire community working together to stop domestic violence.
To report domestic violence, call 911 (in an emergency) or the Edmonton Police Complaint line at 780-423-4567 (#377 from a mobile device in the Edmonton area).
To talk confidentially with a social worker: Call 211 and ask to be connected with a social worker for domestic violence.
For information on resources in Edmonton and across the province: 310-1818 (toll free) Family Violence Info Line. Help is available in 170 languages, 24/7. Call to find out what help is available in your community.
If you have been the victim of Domestic Violence and you require support, please contact Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services at 780-421-2217.
Come join us for a social hour with a bit of education for older adults.
Snacks will be provided.

Did you know about these 3 organizations in the community that help support those experiencing family violence? They have a variety of free (or low cost) programs and services:
💡@TodayFV
💡@myencompass_yeg - Family Violence Prevention Centre (FVPC)
💡@SAIFSociety#FVPM
So thrilled to welcome the newest EDs & CEOs from @abcheadstart@BGCBigs@YESSorg@YOUCANEdmonton! It's inspiring to see these leaders committed to making a difference in our community. We know these organizations will thrive under their leadership.
Take a moment to read this great article. There is no justification for abuse by a partner, but it’s also hard to admit you’re a victim. Please note that domestic violence can occur in all relationships regardless of gender.
