Today marks a transformative milestone for Abia State as we officially flag off the Umuahia Dedicated Internet Access/Wide Area Network (WAN) Project at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat Complex, Umuahia. The project launches us into a new era where technology drives the root-and-branch transformation of the civil service and beyond.

The project is powered by ipNX, a leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company in Nigeria. The first phase of the project introduces high-performance digital tools, fibre-optic cables, and critical IT infrastructure across MDAs to promote seamless communication, high-speed data exchange, and result-oriented governance. Through this initiative, we are empowering civil servants with the tools and skills to deliver faster, more efficient services to Ndi Abia.

Our vision is to unlock opportunities for enterprise growth by connecting the broader Abia economy to the digital space. From enabling artisans and entrepreneurs to trade on virtual platforms to preparing our civil service for round-the-clock operations, the project reflects our commitment to building a New Abia powered by innovation, inclusivity, and progress.

We are also investing in capacity-building programmes to upskill our workforce for the challenges of a digitally driven future. As we expand the network across the state, we envision a future where urban and rural communities alike share in the dividends of digital inclusion.

We extend our gratitude to Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, the Chief Information Officer of Abia State and his team, for their relentless efforts and invaluable contributions toward integrating Abia into the global digital ecosystem. This is the beginning of an exciting journey towards sustainable growth, smarter governance, and brighter opportunities for Ndi Abia. The future is bright, and we are laying the foundation for a more connected, and prosperous Abia State.

Today, I was delighted to flag off the construction of two significant road projects in Umuahia: the 4.32-kilometre Orpet-Umuafai-Lodu-Ahiaeke Road and the 3.79-kilometre Ahiaeke-Okwuta-Bende Road. These roads will serve as vital conduits for economic and social progress, benefiting thousands of Ndi Abia who depend on them every day.

The successful completion of the project will improve transportation for motorists and commuters, create opportunities for artisans and entrepreneurs, bolster businesses in agriculture, real estate, and hospitality, and provide enhanced access to quality amenities for Umuahia's growing population.

Our broader vision surpasses constructing roads; it is to transform our cities into a progressive and adaptable urban setting. These projects align with our efforts under the Urban Renewal and Public Transport Project to improve connectivity, reduce transportation costs, and enhance safety for residents. Powered by clean energy, the planned urban mass transit system will complement these developments, ensuring seamless movement across cities like Umuahia and Aba.

We encourage collaboration between the contractors and local communities to strengthen the economic value chain, while the State Ministry of Works will ensure quality control and adherence to project timelines. As always, development requires collective effort. I urge Ndi Abia to continue supporting the administration through prompt and regular payment of taxes and levies.

I also took note of the request from the Honourable Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, regarding the Ofeke-Azueke Okporoenyi Road. I have directed the Honourable Commissioner for Works to conduct a detailed assessment of the road, enabling us to seek approval from the House of Assembly for a virement or incorporate the project into the supplementary budget.

When we return in nine months to commission these roads, we expect remarkable progress and positive feedback. Special thanks to our host, the good people of Ndume Ibeku for their unwavering support. Together, we can build the New Abia of our dreams.
