An aircraft radiation safety system with citizen scientists monitoring atmospheric radiation from on-board commercial flights. Always waiting for #SpaceWeather!
British Airways is saying goodbye to the Boeing 747 "Queen of the Skies".
G-CIVB will fly to Kemble as #BA400 https://t.co/vJHQREUSSS
G-CIVY will fly to St. Athan as #BA747 https://t.co/TfUGmGDFFt

@eu_cockpit@icao This is an excellent first step, but radiation monitors on-board every aircraft must be the ultimate goal. Only then can pilots react in realtime to a solar radiation storm
Great to hear that people are beginning to agree that radiation monitors should be fitted to aircraft. We have small handheld prototypes that show this concept is easy to achieve

@jim_wild Thanks for the tip. I've recently redone a GCR air shower graphic to replace the old one used for the last 20 years. Will make sure I add a watermark!
@Qantas@flightradar24#ProjectSunrise is very interesting. It would be great to know if you're monitoring atmospheric radiation exposures on the flights too?
Some people (understandably) express concern that they may be stopped by Secuirty when carrying one of our detectors. This goes to show what you can take on a plane!
✈️ Components for ALICE's new inner detector have travelled to CERN from across the globe.
Passengers were in for a surprise when they discovered their travel companion was not a human but a piece of a particle detector!
